i'm sure you guys have heard about these recent protests and attacks on us embassies over in egypt and lybia, over some jackoff's film that was edited to make references to the muslim prophet muhammad engaging in blasphemous acts.

thoughts? it sounds like the crowd reaction is getting to be the work of terrorists, moreso than a bunch of pissed off muslims. as for the guy who did the film itself, i hope he's enjoying the hole that he's surely hiding in. and today i am incredibly lazy in using proper spelling/grammar n shit.

edit: the "movie", if you can call it that, by the proclaimed director "sam bacile" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmodVun1 ... re=related

I'm inappropriately apathetic, to be honest.

There are actually some reports suggesting these attacks were planned as far back as august and if you watch footage of the protests Israeli flags are being burned... so I really doubt that the cause is this video, it might be the catalyst, but it's not the cause.

To be fair, I'm only a typical American, woefully ignorant of foreign affairs. But from where I'm sitting, it's best if we sit this one out. Getting involved in the Middle East in response to Middle Eastern protests against American involvement would just be adding fuel to the fire. Furthermore, launching yet another all-out war would be a very unwise and imprudent retaliation for the American deaths over there.

I also understand that certain Middle Eastern governments have decried the protests. There may be some people overseas who want to maintain healthy relationships with Uncle Sam. Well, then it's their responsibility to get their shit in order.

^I'd have to go with that, best situation is probably to get all americans out of the middle east and let the locals there have their fling.

also i watched the movie.... and it's god awful. not in the sense of blaspheming muhammad (which it very much does), but the acting sets etc is just horrible.

I don't know if I'd say "all" Americans. It would probably be best to keep our diplomats there for as long as it's safe to do so. This way, it would be easier for us to keep an eye on the situation and to keep up negotiations with the local governments.

Finally got to see the Daily Show from last night. They had a great segment reminding us that Islam is only about 1400 years old. Anyone else remember what happened when Christianity was that age?

As a typical liberal (whatever that word means anymore), I believe in the following things:

If you are against gay marriage, don't get gay-married. But don't deny other people their rights.

If you are against abortion, please, don't have an abortion. But don't try and tell women what they can and can't do with their bodies.

And, if you are Muslim and believe it's a sin to create or look at images of Mohammed, then don't create images of Mohammed and definitely go out of your way to avoid seeing images of Mohammed. But fuck you if you think killing people is the correct response for other people creating images of Mohammed. Please die.

I'm drawing a picture of Mohammed right now.

That's sad, but a very interesting correlation.

Brooklyn, that does seem to be the case, and the Obama administration seems to be going out of its way to downplay this. An American killed on the anniversary of 9/11 without an appropriate response (whatever that would entail) in an election year doesn't equal reelection, I guess.

I wouldn't even know what Mohammed looks like. Long beard? Turban? Maybe I should just leave it up to my imagination...

Honestly, I think that could easily go over many voters' heads.
