Oh god, this is the first time I've seen an actual photo of a Batman R.I.P. Joker cosplay.

It's glorious.

I'm really looking forward to villains month. Apparently they're going to do four villain issues per title, which is pretty nuts.

I'm kind of wary of the Darkseid and Desaad stuff, though. It seems like only a select few writers can actually write the New Gods mythology well let alone Darkseid as a character himself.

Well, it's symmetrical for one thing. We people should be able to appreciate that on some level.

Second, both works are by the same creative team. Furthermore, however, the first was made in response to the grittiness of 90's heroes with Captain Marvel succumbing to darkness and becoming a pawn for Lex Luthor while trying to strike down Superman. The second was made a decade later after this darker period of superhero comics had passed and represents the same scene, but this time Captain Marvel is back to his old do-gooder self and instead saves Superman from the likes of Metallo and The Parasite while helping him get back on his feet. It works on a metatextual level.

"It's okay, Superman. I got your signal. It's going to be okay."

Doesn't seem.........that brilliant to me.

I mean, writers and artists making self-tribute ? Nothing new in the comics industry.

It's not just paying tribute to themselves, though. It's creating a double meaning communicating a larger idea when it comes to both the literal interpretation of the scene and the meta meaning through symmetry in their own works.

Also, I just described large sections of Watchmen.
