So I drank a Mexican Coke, today. Having heard how great it was supposed to be, it was a bit of a letdown. While there is a noticeable difference in taste, I can't say it was necessarily better than Coke not made from sugarcane. And I don't think it was sweeter. I think it might be a good drink for people who prefer less of a sweet taste, but I don't think it's good enough to make me want to stop drinking North American Coke.

I had Waffle and Chicken flavored Lay's Potato Chips today.

New favorite type of potato chip hands down.

I saw something about those chips in the newspaper, the other day. Do they actually taste like waffles and chicken?

t3cii-As someone who has the chance to try both mexican coke and american coke, I have to say the worst part are all the nosebleeds I get afterwards from both.

In all seriousness, the difference between both isn't so extreme. I like the taste of the mexican one better, but it depends on what mood I'm in. I don't like Coca-Cola all that much, though, I prefer Pepsi and even then, prefer Dr. Pepper or Sprite or 7UP or Mountain Dew over Pepsi. And over soda, I prefer juices or tea.

Nah, they really do taste like chicken and waffles. The syrup flavoring helps quite a bit.

It could be that I was just expecting something else, since so many people say "it's sooo much better!". But it could also be that the majority of people I've seen/read talking about Mexican Coke are American. I think there might be a slight difference between American Coke and Canadian Coke, so I don't know how American Coke really stacks up against the Mexican kind. I've also seen people say Mexican Coke is sweeter, but I honestly didn't notice it to be particularly sweet, and you also have some people say it's less sweet. I think the fact Mexican Coke comes in glass bottles also might influence people's taste buds, as it suggest a return back to a simpler time, that this is the good stuff. In North America, it generally comes in cans or plastic bottles, although you can buy smallish bottles of it.

I used to like Pepsi back in the day when it came in tall, glass bottles. Over the years, though, the flavor changed. Now, anytime I have a Pepsi, I notice it being sweeter than Coke, but to the point where it almost reminds me of cough syrup. I did try Pepsi Throwback, though, and I find it is closer to how I remember Pepsi tasting. Not really sweet, but with a smoother taste.

I do. I remember buying a bottle when it came out, and after three or four sips, regretting buying it. It's not that it was terrible, just that it was the kind of thing you probably had to have a taste for. I think I sometimes still see it in stores.

I find non-diet coke and pepsi too sweet anyway, personally,

t3cii-Now that you mention the glass bottles, they are also kind of a rarity around here. I mean, sure, you can go to a store and get your coke in glass bottles but most of it comes either in cans or in plastic bottles. I've noticed that the glass ones tend to be sold more in food stands or very small restaurants, but I think that if you go to a store, you can get them but again, they are not exactly the norm around here.

Really? Huh. I kind of assumed they were the norm, although it's probably cheaper to use plastic over glass. My friend was telling me there is some truth to drinks tasting better when from a glass, that there is a science behind it. But I think nostalgia does play some part in it for those who drink it from glasses. I bought the Coke from a store that specializes in foods and products that come from Mexico. When I bought it, the woman offered to open it for me (since it's not a twist off), which also plays into the idea of nostalgia.

Around this time, or in another week, stores also begin to sell Passover Coke, which uses sugar. I think I had it once, and also remember it tasting different.

Pepsi Vanilla > Vanilla Coke

Sorry, it's the truth.

Never seen Pepsi Vanilla... I'm willing to give that a shot. I'll have a look for it next time I'm over in Singapore.
