Sorry, I just got done jumping up and down with all my Watchmen figures and shouting at the top of my lungs "Horray!"

From Comingsoon.net:

"Though WB confirmed that an "Ultimate Edition" will be hitting later (around Christmas), Snyder emphasized that the July edition's features won't be repeated and that the later release will be a more or less "movie-only" version, incorporating the "Black Freighter" footage back into the film. Though the later set's running time will be the longest version possible, Snyder's preferred cut will be the version hitting July 21st and that that version will contain the greatest special features. While the "Ultimate" version will not include the walk-ons, it will have an exclusive audio-only commentary."[/QUOTE]

If the version coming out on the 21st has the cream of the crop special features, that is pretty disappointing.

EDIT: If the DVD Set is 5 Discs, and assuming it does include the Motion Comic, then it will probably look something like this:and

Disc 1: Ultimate Cut Part One
Disc 2: Ultimate Cut Part Two
Disc 3: The Motion Comic Chapters I-VI
Disc 4: The Motion Comic CHapters VII-XII
Disc 5: Digital Copy

And the Blu-ray set would probably end up being only 3 Discs.

All in all, the 5-Disc Edition doesn't sound all that great; aside from including the longer version, it would seem pretty pointless. I hope they are downplaying the special features of the 5-Disc to get people more interested in the one coming out in July.

a 5 disc limited edition sounds awesome. I will be buying any versions of Watchmen available on blu ray in the US.

For Bluray, it will most likely look like this:

Disc 1 - Ultimate Cut and Director's cut with new commentary + "End is Nigh" vidoe game chapters
Disc 2 - TBF and Under the Hood
Disc 3 - Directors cut special features with MAYBE some new extras
Disc 4 - Motion comics, hopefully with features this time
Disc 5 - Digital copies

I would feel better if the movie was spread across two discs, ensuring the best possible quality.

I'm surprised it's going to include "Under the Hood." I guess that will make my TBF Blu-ray worthless. Unless this Ultimate Edition doesn't alllow you to watch TBF by itself. Or the TBF behind-the-scenes video.

Stupid motion comics. Useless disc driving up the price of the Ultimate Edition.

A Blu-ray disc has more than enough space to fit a 3 1/2 hour film without compression or any other negative side effects.

Even if it didn't, I would gladly take a slight decrease in quality if it meant that the cinematic experience wasn't ruined by having the film cut up into two parts on two separate discs. Nothing quite takes you out of the movie like having to jump up, turn on the light, take out you disc, put the next one in, wait for it to load, sit back down, try to get comfortable again, and then continue on with the film.

from what I believe a bluray disc is about 40-50 gigs and a regular dvd is 4.7 gigs. so yes there is plenty of room to fit watchmen

All the movies you buy are dual/double layer discs. Dual/double layer DVD is 9GB & dual/double layer Blu-ray is 50GB.

I asked a Paramount rep today. Her answers: maybe, don't know.

Incidentally I believe the film itself is ready, as Dave told me he's recorded that audio commentary with Zack...

My guess is that I will consider the Director's Cut to be the definitive version of the film, and the DC+TBF cut to be just a really cool extra for geeks.

Speaking of extras, I'm really hoping for a disc full of brand new behind-the-scenes stuff. I was really disapointed with the Director's Cut extras.

In my views, the DC is the TC, and the UC is the DC.
