Normally I wouldn't make a whole new topic for this, but the board could use a little more activity.

I came across this video on YouTube. Its a comparison between the original Zapruder film with the recreated version from Watchmen's opening credits.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7HCDpwVlls

The result really is astonishing. From what I can tell, the film's recreation even has the same exact onlookers in the field behind Kennedy's car. The level of detail is mind-blowing.

Wow. That was incredibly eerie. I love that the actual real footage stops at a few feet away from where the Comedian is hiding.

Is it just me, or does the impact of the bullet seem a little out of sorts from where the supposed "3rd gunman" (Eddie Blake) is hiding. I assume someone would have seen...

I don't know, Kennedy was before my time...

I always thought that the Watchmen version looked so similar to the real footage but wow, that attention to detail is amazing, as horrific the events may be.

Wow. Even the cars in the background. Pretty interesting.

It's the insane attention to detail that made me love the film more than I would have otherwise. Reading the film companion book for Watchmen, it's wonderful to hear how Snyder was encouraging his team to add more and more to the production, even though many of the details would only be seen in the background for a few seconds. I'm pleased to see how they managed to shoot the scene with very similar vehicles and on-looker look-a-likes.

Shouldn't the Comedian have been behind the fence on the grassy knoll?

Image

In the opening credits it looks like he's on the outside of the fence.

I guess it doesn't really matter since it never happened, I'm just thinking of that grassy knoll shooters theory.

No, he's behind the fence, I think he was shooting out of the gap in the fence

But it doesn't matter, we all know who REALLY shot JFK.

he was outside the fence, then after taking the shot ducked back through the fence and took off. plus he probably couldn't be seen by many people and was able to make an easy getaway.

Comedian is in the position where "badgeman" is theorised as standing. They positioned him exactly where the Dallas PD uniformed shooter was. They also combed his hair to match as closely as possible the hairline of badgeman. :)

Unbelievable attention to detail, which I think is why the DVD will keep selling for a long time to come. :)

And hi everyone :)

Can only speak for my own corner of the human cosmos but at the local music / dvd place where I live the latest shipment of the DVD and TBF DVD have already sold out. It's selling for AUD 13.00 which is a damn good price, but so are a ton of other titles, at K Mart and at speciality shops and Watchmen has outsold a lot of other titles.

I've noticed that the DVD/Blu-Ray is a steady, strong seller on amazon. And that includes several of the versions of the film and formats (DVD, Blu-Ray).

Amazon's huge price drop on the Director's Cut has contributed to this over the Christmas season.

So, yes, one can say that the movie is getting into a lot of fresh hands who are seeing it for the first time. The word is spreading...

Much like Blade Runner back in the late 80s and 90s, I believe WATCHMEN will have a second life on home video. It really is a film that's designed to be poured over and studied. Watching it at home allows for this.

A couple of things I forgot to mention.

1. The link to that site was cool. Important to note that, according to the site, the DVD had sold 2.2 million units as of LAST YEAR. It's been selling steadily since.

2. Speaking of the DVD being everywhere. My local library has multiple copies of the film. Sadly, they only have the theatrical version. What is interesting though is that both the novel and the DVD are in the children's section! I pointed this out once to a librarian but nothing was done about it.

I've always felt that the uneasiness to perceive it for first-timers has contributed a lot to the mediocre box office performance.

Also, should go fetch my JFK DVD...

I still find it stupid that the DC was not released as a Region 2 DVD...
