So I finally got around to uploading some videos that I did throughout the year for a film class. Please comment them, rate them, etc. and let me know what you think. I'd love to hear some critiques and comments from you guys!

The link is in my signature ;)

I'm also a film student, so I'm interested in watching other film students work. Keep in mind that if I criticize something I'm not saying that its crap and that I could do better. I'll keep it all constructive, and soon I'll upload a commercial that I directed for you guys to check out :)

Testimony: The start was pretty slow, wasn't really feeling the music. Also, you got some nice close ups but they didn't really do much for the story, I'd rather see some nice close ups of the actors face as thats where we get all the emotion. If we can engage with the characters, we'll go along with the story. Couple of your zooms could've been a tad smoother as well as your pans and what not.

Speaking of story, I don't really get why they wouldn't put the dude in witness protection if he was testifying against a police officer lol. But its no biggie really. I lol'd when I saw the "You're dead!" sign on the fridge, but again these are pretty small complaints.

Nice fight scenes dude! The sound effects when they swung were kinda cheesy but made it kinda cool at the same time. Nice camera work on those scenes too. I've learned from watching other student films not to cast students as Cops or anything as its just not believable, but what can you do ay? Also, what kind of camera did you use to shoot this?

Thanks! This is the kind of constructive criticism I was looking for ;)

I'll keep in mind that I need to engage the actors a little more. The start was a little slow, and I didn't have much to work with for the music. Since I couldn't use any good copyrighted music I had to whip something up in Garageband in like 10 minutes :?

Of course the story is complete bullshit. Not to mention that a prisoner can't get released on bail after his actual trial

The you're dead sign on the fridge and the cop appearing behind is of course an homage to Watchmen. It was cheesy, but I couldn't help it :D

I was pretty happy with the fight scenes. The sound effects were a little more obvious because I fucked up the audio from the actual fight, so I didn't catch the actors actually grunting and yelling. I ended up not having time to dub them either.

It certainly wasn't a very believable story, but for my first true "short film" ever, I was pretty happy. I'm looking forward to seeing your work!

Testimony was shot on a Panasonic DVX 100a, using 30p (I wanted to use 24p, but the teacher didn't let me  )

BTW, where are you studying?

I'm still getting around to acquiring a good copy of the commercial I directed for you guys to see. But I will get it eventually lol.

Would answer those questions you asked in the last post but I'm tired and can't be stuffed typing haha.

Bumping this thread :)

I recently finished Certificate III in Film and Television at TAFE here in Australia, and my TAFE class has put up some of our stuff to youtube, so you guys should check it out if you wanna kill some time lol.

All of these videos were done for an assignment that was basically constructed around learning how to light and shoot a simple short scene of two people talking. So most of them are pretty short, and some of them were purely made up on the spot, without even a script or any prior planning. We were just given the assignment, a basic storyboard and off we went.

You might see a few of them titled "The Meeting" and "The Alternative". "The Meeting" is basically a scene that's done outside so we could learn how to light during exterior scenes using scrims and reflectors. Unfortunately we had to reshoot our "Meetings" so many times, due to stuff being over-exposed, out of focus, and what not lol, which caused most of us to ignore putting much effort into lighting our exterior shots haha. These ones were the ones done on the spot, with no script or anything.

"The Alternatives" is more or less the same kind of thing, but its set before or after "The Meetings", but we to shoot it inside to do interior lighting, specifically a 3-point lighting set up (which involves a key light, fill light, and back light). Most of the Alternatives are better than our Meetings because our Alternatives were done AFTER our Meetings, which meant we had more of an idea of what we were doing lol. Surprisingly, this assignment really taught me a lot about when shooting a scene of two people talking; namely how to get enough footage to edit the film seamlessly. Anywho, thats pretty much all you need to know I think...

The two videos which I directed and camera operated are Battle of Minds and a Battle of Minds 2. Battle of Minds is actually the second one, my "Alternative", which I think is shot much better, and a big improvement over the first one.

I also "star" in a couple of the videos on there lol. The Mother of All Destiny's has me acting in it, its totally silly and fun. I looked like hell that day, my casting decision was short notice lol. I'm also in the "Kori's Super Awesome Gig" videos, playing myself (Kori) :?. Yes, I mumble and what not, leave me alone >.>

So yeah, check 'em out ;)

I'm gonna go ahead and only check out the videos you directed.

Oh, and by the way I have another video on my youtube channel. It's basically just random "nature" shots set to music, but I think it came out pretty cool. Check it out!

Here's some of mine. I was Layout Supervisor on this show, meaning I blocked the shots and timed them out, and positioned/animated all the cameras. This title sequence was made before my team came on board, so myself and the Animation Supervisor did everything.
I have just started a new project, which I am co-directing.

Very cool indeed. The footage looked fucking fantastic, and I've always liked the "arty" nature shots of stuff going in and out of focus like in that video lol. The music was cool as well and suited the shots of nature quite nicely.

Nice work man :)

Thanks man! I need to learn other trick as well though, cause the focus tricks wear off after a while haha. I'm actually visiting my home town of Mexico City in Jan/Feb, so I'll be making similar types of videos there. Hopefully I can get across the beauty as well as the chaos of city. It should be fun.
