Well the Mexican government is too busy helping out the drug cartels and slaughtering journalists. I don't think they'd be much help.

Hell, if the Mexican government was in any way helpful, Mexicans wouldn't be coming over here in the first place.

The reason I refrained from mentioning the Mexican side of things is because normally when I bring up Mexico's corruption, people seem to automatically blame it all on that, and end up dismissing the US' broken immigration system.

Are you saying that a whole group of people can't do something because of the colour of their skin?

I never said that you were wrong. I'm saying the white majority will not know what it is like to be a minority (at least until other ethnic classes become the majority).

And no, I'm not saying that a whole group of people can't do something because of their color. I'm saying the largest group of people doesn't know what it's like to be the smallest group of people.

i wouldn't say the white majority, diego. plenty of us american white folk have been discriminated in one way or another, as well as repeating the action itself and are living in crappy conditions too.

spent time catching up with this thread and must say it is very interesting to read. Being a resident of the UK I feel a bit distant from all this but just thought I could chip in. I would just be interested to know if Swine Flu heightened the amount of racist attacks on Mexicans in the US.

Beyond a few jokes, I didn't see much difference.

I know the Indian population in the UK is the closest thing to Mexicans in the US.

Please see The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. It deals much less with racism than I remembered, but it still fits into what we're talking about. It's a hell of a film, and is truly worth watching.

If we are now talking about films that show the hardship watch "Trade" It is really good and shows the difficulties that are faced by many in Mexico. It is kind of like a very gritty, way more realistic and often uncomfortable to watch version of taken

Well the movie I recommended deals more with the hardships we face in the US.

The thing I hate about most films showing the hardships in Mexico, is that they are often written and directed by Americans who have no idea what they're talking about. Not to mention they make the world thing that Mexico is some kind of Somalia. We need films that show the beauty and goodness that Mexico offers.

As for a good film showing the corruption in the US and Mexico, Traffic is a must see.
