I stumbled onto this article recently, and buried in the interview was this little nugget. I hope you're wearing a sturdy hat, because this may blow your mind:

Alan Moore wrote:
Then the issue after that we’ve hopefully got Gorillaz onboard. They came down to Northampton last week because we’re planning for me to do the libretto on their next opera project. Being an opportunist, I of course asked them if they’d be prepared to contribute some pages to Dodgem Logic. Rather than just doing an interview with them, I thought it would be interesting to hand over a few pages for them to curate.

Alan Moore... mastermind of Watchmen... is writing a libretto... for an opera by Gorillaz. I don't know what to make of this. How about you?

Wow. I don't know what to make of this because I don't know what a libretto is. I'll look it up.

*looking*

The text of a work for the musical theater (as in opera)

Okay...umm still no idea.

The libretto is the book, the words to the songs.

Well Yeah I know that now. I put the definition in my post. I was just saying that I still don't know what to make of this.

Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett's last (and first) opera was Monkey: Journey To The West. It's a pretty damn good c.d., and apparently the staging etc. was impressive. There's clips and things scattered around youtube, most of it looks a bit Circue Du Soleil for my taste. But anything that gets the creators of Tank Girl, From Hell, and Charmless Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjaNgnL0aGE) working together has got to be a good thing.

I'm assuming Curi is not fond of Gorillaz

If anything it should be pretty good, Alan Moore is a great writer and Gorillaz is a great band, I can't see any issue in there.

You know what I like? Peanut Butter. You know what I also like? Pickles.

You know what I don't like together?

Peanut Butter and Pickles.

Quite the contrary, feliciano.

It's not that I have any issue with this, I just don't have any idea what the hell such a collaboration is going to look like. It could be a wonderful bit of creativity and imagination with song or -- as Godziller implies -- it could be a fascinating train wreck. Either way, I can't wait to hear more.

True, I love the Alan boy, but that doesn't mean that this will necessarily be good, we'll just have to see.

And I hate peanut butter.

Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett's (Gorillaz) previous opera, Monkey: Into The West, is pretty damn good. And somehow the fact that Jamie Hewlett was one of the leading lights of Britain's comics industry through the 80's, designing and creating Tank Girl among other things, and Alan Moore wants to work with him... all puts a bit of a positive spin on the rolling dice. But yeah, we just have to wait n' see.

Can't see how this wouldn't be awesome. Monkey: Journey to the West was excellent... and the new Gorillaz album, Plastic Beach, is shaping up to be amazing.

Anything Gorillaz does is amazing. 8-) I've been a fan of theirs since their first album.

He just looks like he is missing a few key vitamins and/or minerals in his diet. Too many lark's tongues, not enough lizard gizzards...
