I don't think there is a god. And if there is I'm nothing like him.

It's not a movie, but a series. It has the hallmarks of final fantasy, such as musical cues, chocobos and a technical genius named sid, but it is not the continuation of any of the game storylines.
It does rule though.

As for anime recommendations, I'd be curious to hear what a total newcomer would think of Evangelion 1.0 (you know, the first of that four-part movie remake they're trying).

I think the second one must have been fansubbed by now. I saw the first one so I'll need to check that out.

I don't know if anyone said FLCL but it deserves a mention.

Godziller, did you just discover Fooly Cooly? I've been watching it over and over since they first released it in the US on Adult Swim. Also, I can't believe AS is putting Inuyasha back on the air lulz.

No I saw it the same as you.

I just thought when I posted that, "Hey Fooly Cooly! That should be in the anime reccomendations!".

And then I thought I should look up its complete soundtrack.

Ah, okay. I should kick myself for not mentioning it before.

Also, Detective Conan (I think it's called Case Closed in the US or something) is a pretty good show. Like Scooby-Doo, but a little more graphic.

Shin-Chan if you want some humorous stuff.

Of course, you should take every recommendation you see in this thread and head on over here to waste your life and learn of the all-powerful being that is the Internet.

So I am watching Berserk at the moment, and it seems to have pretty good reviews, but the animation does not seem very fluid to me. It was made in 1997/98, but there are films like Akira that are far more fluid, I don't know whether it is because it had a poor budget or because I am watching it on my internet browser. Anyone else seen it and had similar issues?

You do realize that Akira is a "film" and Berserk was a "tv series" right?

yeah. sorry if my post wasn't that clear, but still the point about lack of fluidity in the animation remains true.

We kind of all are.

"My definition, which was correct was removed by biased peoples. Oh well. Here I go again.

In Japan the word Otaku is a label that is quite bad. Most Japanese people would not want to be considered an otaku.
In America, however, we have morphed the word as we always do to our own meaning. There is nothing wrong with this. Over in America it means "to be a big fan of", and really doesn't have a bad meaning, as it would in Japan.

As such, you wouldn't want to go to Japan and start saying how much of an Otaku you are. In America this is fine, and probably in Canada as well. However, alot of people here seem to forget that they are saying what the Japanese interpret it as. Most people that read this hail from North America where the definition has a fairly benign meaning.

I rest my case.
Japan: Ugh, he's so disgusting... must be a anime otaku.

North America: Dude, you are totally a hardcore Otaku!"

But yeah, I like Japanese stuff an unhealthy amount. lol I was going to use a shorter definition but this one was so comprehensive.

I pretty much thought Otaku was Japanese for nerd.

Or that's the way we use it. It really means obsessed with something and it has a negative connotation in Japan. A person could be a Gun Otaku or a Gun Nut.

Yeah, otaku is basically "fanatic" with a negative connotation. But here, people use it with pride.

A bit harsh.

They're everywhere. I don't have a hatred towards them, but I think they should look at the life outside the otaku lifestyle. There's more to Japanese culture than anime and manga, for one thing. I consider myself to be a fan of anime/manga, but I'm not obsessed with it. (I haven't seen an anime series in a long time, by the way. I try to watch them legally and when I have the time.)

The only anime that I ever really got into were Death Note and Paranoia Agent. I think that they're the only ones I've actually seen in their entirety. Well, I saw Blue Submarine No. 6 and FLCL but those were short. My friend, on the other hand, has stacks and stacks of manga in his room. He also uses netflix to rent anime constantly. Actually, I also saw Read Or Die and Evangelion because of him but I didn't like those very much.

Also, I saw all of Dragon Ball Z but that's because I was in Elementary School/Junior High and I craved Action! Action! Action!

In the form of 200 something episodes, apparently.

Edit: This thread is about sigs. Yours is awesome.

7/10 LOOK AT THAT CRAZY MOON LANGUAGE WHAT. Idk. I'm a photoshop snob so. ^^'

P.S. Pffft you whipper snapper Otaku have it easy these days. Back when I was a teen we had to hop in a car and drive all the way to the city to find imported bootlegs done really shitty and people were still going "What's a poky-mon?" "Japan makes cartoons?" You guys have it easy. Once the hunt was taken out of the game, being an Otaku wasn't fun anymore.

That and more recent animes really suck.
