One year after seeing the abridged version of the film. There was a lot of hype and interest in the film. ...

How does the film look a year removed? How do you view it? How do others view it? (Do they view it? Has it been forgotten?)

I think it's been forgotten. It's pretty well-established that for its faults, the DC is far and away superior to the TC.

Ditto. The funny thing is that friends of mine who rent the film always rent the theatrical cut and they later tell me how much they loved it and wish they had seen it in the theater and I just tell them "Wait until you see the Director's Cut".

I am hoping to see the DC again soon, so I can watch it with the hype and excitement I felt for the film getting in the way of analazying it. I don't think my opinion of the DC will change that much, though. I don't plan on watching the TC or the UC ever again.

*cough*Ultimate Cut*cough*

But yeah, the theatrical cut is completely obsolete in my eyes.

And anywhere, really. Then again...frisbee anyone?

Oh snap! My bad!

The TC is a wonderfully disjointed movie. It's just cute to watch it and think that some studio executive thought that it worked. Even though Snyder said that he was proud of the movie, meaning the TC, you can't have meant it. The DC is the greatest version of the movie and it will stay that way unless we get a Watchmen Redux sometime in the future.

The TC didn't even get a Blu-ray release, and the DVD had no extras. The UC got a very limited release. I think it is pretty clear that the DC will be considered the definitive cut of the film in the future. Even if you liked the UC, you have to acknowledge that. In the future, when people refer to the "Watchmen movie," they will be referring to the Director's Cut.

That's only IF the Watchmen movie is remembered at all though. I'm not totally convinced it will be.

Yes I do.

I think it'll end up being a cult classic sort of thing. Like Donnie Darko or Blade Runner. It'll never be mainstream.

I think that the movie is and will continue to be a vital companion piece to the GN.

Ever since the movie came out, I've been telling my friends "You can read the GN first or you can watch the movie first, but don't you dare do one without the other."

The studio execs probably didn't give a shit, the only reason it was cut down was for IMAX theaters, which is absolutely ridiculous.

Well, they insisted that Snyder cut down the film. Notice that it was also cut down in normal theaters as well.
