The point of the random character crossovers is a way of saying these characters were always destined to meet, whether on the island or "in another life, brutha."
I understand that. However it has gone from the odd encounter to them actually being in each others lives. I just hope it leads to something bigger than "their lives were destined to meet".

Speaking of which, who wants to bet Desmond's locked up in that room on the submarine?
I honestly don't know. I guess it could be Desmond or some other person. I wonder why they would need to bring them to the island?
Where do you guys think Widmore stands in all of this. We see mini sonic fences are being put up, presumably to keep Smokey out. But is Widmore really against Smokey? I don't know if I find his allegiance with Sawyer to be convincing. Is he pulling a con himself?

They really work great together, both are fantastic actors, and even though it's the most insane idea ever, I also have to agree about that spin-off

, I can already see them taking down the Crips and Bloods with nothing but heavy duty sarcasm !
It's funny that these guys probably are close friends now. I mean, they've known each other for three years. That's longer than Sawyer has known everyone else on the island. There is a great thread on IMDb that I've taken part of imaging a cheesy, Miami Vice style spin off with the two of them. You'd be surprised how easy it is to come up with cheesy, derivative stuff like that.
Actually, I read an interesting theory about Sawyer's Alt time line. The theory is that everything about him being a cop has a phony quality to it, and it is intentionally phony.
- Although we see them as being cops at the beginning, after that it's really just a bunch of scenes with them hanging out with badges on.
- The scenes themselves contain typical buddy cop clichés. The two of them wear those police badges on chains and use a code word, Myles tries to set Sawyer up on a hot blind date, Sawyer says he's trying to score Laker tickets, there is a foot chase at the end, etc. All of this is the corny type of stuff one would see in something like CHIPS or Miami Vice or Magnum PI. There is a certain air of fantasy to it all.
- Supposedly Sawyer has a mug that says "Hollywood" on it. (Hollywood as in that's his nickname? Or Hollywood as this is a subtle hint that all of this is phony?)
So the idea is that all of this is phony and cliché by design. That this is a make believe world that Sawyer has created. And to take from another theory, this is a world that Sawyer, and everyone else, will create by the end of the series. What we're seeing isn't just a what if? What we're seeing is what the Losties chose as their ultimate destinies.
