Definitely.

  • That owlship looks really fucking stupid.
  • The basement is nowhere near big enough for Dreiberg's purposes.
  • What's up with Karnak? Why would Adrian possibly make it a bunch of smaller buildings instead of one huge building?

- The owlship looks no more stupid than the real one did.

- The basement is just an illustration. I'm not sure that's supposed to mean it is an actual representation of the finished product.

- Are we sure that's Karnak?

What's to justify? Curi said that owlship design looked "fucking stupid". To me it doesn't look that much different than what ever Snyder and co came up with.

those look pretty intriguing, actually..i wish there was more concept art from the aborted greengrass version available, besides the dr. manhattan designs from a few years back. things that never were tend to be really intriguing in retrospect, i can't help but wonder how the inevitable 2026 remake is gonna turn out

I don't dislike the Owl Ship design, but I don't understand the military camouflage thing it has going for it. Karnak looks okay, but is definitely underwhelming in a way. Dreibergr's basement looks fine to me. It looks like a real basement, although I don't know how much of a good thing that is. What is Dr. Manhattan holding in his hand?

As much as I like Snyder's take, I would have liked to have seen Greengrass' seemingly very down to earth version. It's too bad he probably would have agreed with killing Veidt at the end, though, since that was the script he was working with.

Oh sure, I notice the difference. But I think this version of the ship still manages to have the same essence.

This isn't to say I think it looks better than Snyder's version. For what it's worth I prefer Snyder's version. But this is an alternate take on the idea, and I don't think it looks all that stupid. It looks like it's trying to be more practical, with the camouflage design, and less trying to look like an owl.

I hear what you're saying, but I felt that was true of both the book and the movie. It looks like Karnak would be the vivarium. It has sort of an industrialized look to it. Although it's kind of cool that from overhead it almost resembles Dr Manhattan's symbol.

Stealthy? Practical?

Pardon my ignorance, but how exactly is a giant floating pair of binoculars supposed to be either of those things?

1) I never used the word "stealthy". And 2) maybe practical wasn't the best word. What I mean is it looks more bare bones than the comic version, which was designed to look like a giant owl.

Okay. And how is that a good thing?

The Greengrass Owlship looks like two of the escape pods from the Tantive IV stuck together.

Snyder's version was also way more faithful to the GN, which I liked.

I'm not saying it's a good thing. I'm just explaining the possible rationale behind it.

Oh. Well, okay then.

For my part, I maintain -- just as I always have -- that the film we ultimately ended up with was in every way the best we were ever going to get. I'm intrigued by Greengrass' logic for modernizing the story and I think it might have been a solid way to establish the movie as a totally separate entity from the story. Nevertheless, we the fans were demanding fidelity to the comic from day one. Either do the comic and do it right as best you can or don't do it at all.

It's blowing my mind, man.

Really though, that was the only image that I thought looked alright. Of course, I have no idea how it would fit into the story.

You know how Jon sort of reads Laurie's past? Maybe it's like that. Like a hologram in the palm of his hand?
