The movie is pushing forward to its imminent release date in just a few weeks. Personally, I'm excited to see it.

Of course, the movie may have been... overpromoted. No doubt you've all seen the abundance of Iron Man clips that have been spread throughout the interwebs. Then came this clip from the good people of The Onion, which is hilarious for any fanboy.

May 2nd is almost upon us, folks. This year's round of big-budget action movie tentpoles is just around the corner, and Iron Man will fire the opening shot.

Thoughts?

excited...with a hope for redemption of the last few comic films.
I was real bummed about Robert for the cast until I saw a clip and thought he wasn't a bad choice.

War machine looks pretty sick!!!!!

And I like Gwyneth Paltrow too...

So there is the right ingredients for a killer movie :D

I don't think that was War Machine. I don't even think that suit will be featured in the movie.

Correct. The suit we're seeing is Iron Man Mk. II. It's a halfway point, where Stark tries to modify and improve the Mk. I. The result is a kind of prototype for the red and gold Mk. III.

He'll be in the sequel.

When Favreau hired Terrence Howard, he wasn't just casting Rhodes. He was casting War Machine as well.

It's nice to see Downey Jr cleaned up and doing well for himself. He was squandering his talent for awhile there.

Still need to see Zodiac, though.

Had its Gala premier in Australia.

The clips looked great in the news item I saw here.

I received a cinema ticket for my birthday the other day, so I'm just waiting for release here...

Set aside the time to do it. Soon. You have 48 hours. ;)
Yeah Iron Man is definitely in my top three most-anticipated of this year
HB2 and maybe Benjamin Button make up the others

Honestly I don't know what not to love!

Downey Jr - who since Kiss Kiss Bang Bang has stayed one of my favourite actors (also look out for A Scanner Darkly and Zodiac for amazing performances)

lol yeah back in 2005 I thought "He's still alive?!" :D

Favreau - in whom I don't see huge potential as a director, but I love Swingers (which he wrote, starred in and produced) and I enjoyed Elf (perhaps he was the one who really made Will Ferrell a star?), so I have a certain fondness

Visually, it reminds me of Transformers, which was great entertainment

Paltrow we all know

The irony is for something I'm so excited about, I've read very few of the comic books

I have always thought Downey a bit of a ham, tbh.

I haven't seen Zodiac, either. It came out around the time Life on Mars was screened, and I didn't fancy any more retro-policing.

I will look out for it, Ayb.

Speaking of Downey Jr, who here hasn't seen the Tropic Thunder trailer?
And who doesn't find him hilarious in that!!

- What do you mean 'you people'?

- What do you mean 'you people'?!

I really wonder how people will react to him playing a character who spends a good amount of time in blackface?

Speaking of blackface (Wow. How's that for a segue?), I saw a funny cartoon in the newspaper about a week ago, from some cartoonists sketchbook (which was a book made out of napkins that apparently you can buy). It was a single illustration of Superman from the back, with a $20 in his hand, looking up at a shelf with two items both $20 in price. One was a pair of black glasses, the other a can of blackface. By the look of his hand stroking his chin, he was seriously considering the can! :)

Iron Man is getting some nice reviews.

Opens today in town. I have promised my 11 year old to see it asap. The last time we both went to the cinema we chose Transformers.

Looks like another memorable experience is on the cards.

That's fitting, cos the effects team is the same!
I'm gonna see this friday...
I've heard its a bit too much of an origin story, the action isn't too good (+ its got the usual token villain), but the cast is apparently the best in a comic book movie since Begins...so it's essential for me...
(cmon Watchmen, beat this for cast!)

I saw "Iron Man" last night at a press screening. It was very good — a slick, polished movie with fun performances by everybody involved and really incredible special effects. You can't tell what's CGI and what's practical. Robert Downey is perfect, as is Terrence Howard. Even Gwyneth Paltrow does a good job. And all the nods to Marvel Comics continuity really add a fun layer for comic book fans — but you don't need to know the comics at all to enjoy the film.

That said, it still ranks behind "Batman Begins" and the first "Spider-Man," if only because "Iron Man" sacrifices emotional drama for fun escapism (which isn't necessarily bad for a summer movie), but it has lots of great, likeable characters, impactful action, and badass special effects.
