* Seems a few posts have been made while typing this. It sometimes takes me a while to get my thoughts in order, so if I don't reply to a post, that's the reason.

feliciano182 wrote:
Dude, do you have a hot, beautiful, kind, loving hipster girlfriend we don't know about ? Who you really REALLY love ?!

Seriously :| ...

If I did, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you.

Smutty wrote:
I think t3cii just hates ignorant fallacies

That, and the amount of animosity towards them. It's kind of weird.

feliciano182 wrote:
specially given how you two have an obsessive fetish with the way they dress, instead of the way they ACT.

Let's be fair. I'm just reacting to what other people have been saying.

feliciano182 wrote:
I myself believe that the hipster phenomenon does exist, and that it is new

Actually, I think the word originally came from the 1940's.

Dr. Brooklyn wrote:
t3cii.......... what could I possibly do to convince you?

"Show me how they dress"
*Dr. Brooklyn provides pictures*
"Those are from fashion websites! But some of them are picture of hipsters... not pictures of hipsters!"

I asked for one photo. You provided me with links to image search engines. One photo looked more like a fashion site photo, another was of a group of musicians. The others were cartoons.

Dr. Brooklyn wrote:
"Tell me how they act!"
*Dr. Brooklyn explains*
"You've told me how they act! BAH! I wanted to hear how they act!"

I asked you if you specifically have met anyone who acts that way. You haven't provided any real scenarios, just ones you have made up. I know how you think these people act, but are you just making generalizations, or do you have legitimate, tangible, first hand knowledge?

I think things have become a bit confused, and I'm partly to blame. So here is my final stance on the matter. I think "hipsters" are partly a creation of the media, and the Internet. I think it's very easy to label someone a "hipster", because it's meaning has become so watered down, so generalized, that it's lost all meaning. I think the word comes from a place of animosity and spite. I think it's used by other people to describe people who like things that are maybe not particularly mainstream. Because of that, I don't think it's a real subculture like punk, for example. Punks tend to dress a certain way, and they listen to punk music, and other variations. They tend to be anti establishment. They have a very specific image. I find the "ideologies" that are supposed to be associated with hipsters are too broad to be able to make up an actual subculture. I could meet a punk, or a mod, or a skinhead (the original, non racist, reggae listening movement, not to be confused with white supremacy) and I would have a pretty clear image of who they are, and what they are about. I don't think the same can be said of hipsters.

I understand that hipsters exist as a concept, but I think that's all they are. A concept. A vague idea. And an idea that somehow has evolved from meaning one thing, to meaning an other.

You guys are a bunch of hipsters. Only hipsters would make such a big deal out of the meaning of hipster. Take a chill pill.

Exactly!

Like how some one can be a geek... but not play Magic or DnD.

Fine, I had a friend who pretended to like Scarface despite never seeing it, he always mentioned it if we saw something Scarface realted, but he hadn't seen the movie.

When Watchmen was coming out there was a kid in my grade who was "obsessed with Watchmen" but didn't even know it was a book first. His knowledge came from a few viewings of the trailer.

Trying to act like she knows about movies I had a girl tell me that Rosemary's Baby was a ripoff of The Exorcist... being that the book and movie for Rosemary's Baby came years before The Exorcist book/movie she was obviously just trying to sound like she knows about movies

And which part of my friend is dating a girl who calls herself a hipster makes it seem like I've never met someone who acts like this? And all her friends I've met have very similar attitudes and dress much like my examples.

furthermore... just because it's a cartoon doesn't mean it's not accurate.

Well... of course it's a blanket term.

So are nerd, christian, conservative, liberal, emo, punk, muslim, hindu, hippie, geek, prep, yuppie, jock, stoner, film buff, buddhist, book worm, etc.

Nobody exactly fits every single characteristic associated with a label.

Like we're all clearly nerds, but it's pretty debatable as to whether we're smart or not.

nah we're clearly all geeks, but it is debatable whether we all bite the heads off things in a circus or sideshow environment

And guess what? These kinds of people have been around so fucking long before the term "Hipster" was being used for people such as these. These people are often called "Dickheads".

When it comes to the fashion thing, I wear skinny jeans. I wear cardigans. Hell, right now I'm wearing skinny/slim fit, roll up shorts! I MUST BE HIPSTER SCUM. I've seen SO MANY different types of clothes labeled "hipster" that unless you dress extremely blandly you'd probably be labeled a hipster. And most of the conversation about the fashion brings it back to where it seems like you guys are generalizing a whole bunch of people for wearing certain clothes, not their actual attitude.

Remember that guy I met that party? Seriously, this guy listens to indie music and tunes from the 80s. He loves retro shit. He's the biggest "hipster ever". But he's fucking hilarious and has an awesome taste in movies. I usually tend to judge someones personality after meeting them and actually getting to know them a bit, not hating on a massive generalization.

You can say all you want that "HIPSTERS PREETEND TO LIEK MUVEES WEN DEY DON'T HURR DURR" but have you met every single person who would fall under the "hipster" category? Are you going to conduct a questionnaire with every indie kid out there to see if his/her comic and movie knowledge is up to standards? No, you're going to sit there and judge a bunch of people because maybe their clothing, music and movie taste and political stances may be slightly different than your own.

In the end? HATERS GONNA HATE.

Yeah I can see what you mean. So I think by those sets of values most people on this forum are hipsters... Dr. Brooklyn is obviously the biggest hipster of them all!

my understanding is that hipsters choose their values by how cool it makes them rather than by actual merit. and then they probably don't even follow their chosen "values" when noone is looking.

I was going to make some kind of joke just now about "hipstercrites" but then thought that it was probably too lame.

If you're talking about my avatar, then yeah man, I thought it was time for a change, and I've been watching lots of Batman The Animated Series and I decided Harvey Bullock is the coolest guy ever.
If you're talking about my political stance, well yeah, I've always been pretty "far left" on here.
