Because I haven't*. Of what good would it do me, while talking about hipsters, to invoke skaters? What gain to pull artists, punks, or whichever subculture you choose into the mix when I am specifially referring to one?

Nobody has ever been one subculture their ENTIRE life though. I mean even I only started reading comics a few years ago, so I haven't been a comic reader my whole life, but now if you were to identify me... you'd have to include my love of comics. This kid could have been a prep for the first 19 years of his life, and if he just started being a hipster last year... he's still a hipster now and can be identified as one.

Then don't say stuff like "The jeans aren't why I thought he was a hipster the rest of his life makes me think he's a hipster" ... I think you need to think before you type.

What good would it do? Well for starters, it would make you look less ignorant, as has been my fucking point all along. It doesn't matter if some hipsters wear them, but whenever you mention the clothing in relation to hipsters with such disdain, it pisses me off as people such as myself wear them too. When you speak broadly like that it feels like you're lumping me in your list of "People you hate".

Now read my post thoroughly so my point doesn't go flying over your head, again.

I should stereotype because there are people outside of the group that do stuff that that group does and those people might get offended because I indicted their lifestyles in reference to a group I don't like.

I've learned a very valuable lesson today

And I'll remember to include every subculture everytime I talk about one specific group

How witty of you, Lil' Bernie, how delightful! Because I disagree that means I'm wrong! (this is going to seem contradictory) Notice that on such a vague subject matter as subculture there is no group made up of people who share 100% of the same traits. Furthermore, subcultures aren't like a bunch of random circles, instead they are like chain mail, interconnected and over lapping. Traits can be traits of multiple groups, without being specific.

Film Buffs and Hipsters both watch a lot of movies, but that doesn't mean all film buffs are hipster or the converse. At the same time Hipsters can be film buffs and vice versa. Therefore with so much gray area it seems even more ignorant to say "I wear skinny jeans, but I'm not a hipster... THEREFORE NO HIPSTERS WEAR SKINNY JEANS!"

Has somebody ever lusted for you this bad Brooklyn ?

I mean, who else in your life has given so much importance to your opinion that they would feel negatively aluded to when you insult their jeans ?

Apparently jeans are a very touchy subject

I don't think you're a moron because I disagree with you, Brooklyn, I think you're a moron because the way you process what's in front of you is moronic.

If you actually believe that, I really could not care less.

Question: Is it possible that hipsters might wear skinny jeans precisely because so many other subcultures do?

After all, aren't hipsters just wannabes who are too self-righteous to admit that they're wannabes?

Don't try and think logically Curi, it offends Lil' Bernie. But that is actually a very good and interesting point. Do so many traits of hipsters reflect other subcultures intentionally? Are many of the now "hipster" traits traitrs of other groups that were absorbed and amalgamated into a new subculture?

HAHAHAHAHAHA

And I don't really know, Curi, as the whole point of hipsters (Usually) is to wear clothes that "the mainstream" doesn't wear.

Or they wouldn't because those clothes are as mainstream as any other popular piece of clothing.

Fashion's funny that way, isn't it?

It sure is. Personally, I just wear whatever I think looks good on me and what I feel comfortable in.

The Washington Post ran an article on so called "hipster glasses" and their possible over exposure:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/are-hipster-glasses-over-how-they-went-from-geek-to-chic-to-weak/2011/09/13/gIQAITgRXK_story.html

As some of you know, I wear glasses, particularly, black plastic framed glasses. I've been wearing glasses regularly since I was about 13 years old. I used to wear metal frames but got bored with them. I also figured if I was going to have to wear glasses, I should really wear them, and get frames that were not so nondescript and maybe a bit more bold. Because there really isn't anything all that cool about wearing glasses. I'm in need of a new pair, and am looking at different models. When I got my current pair, plastic frames were already quite common. But in the past two years plastic frames have become associated with hipsters. Anytime someone takes a picture of a popular character recreated as a hipster they add black, plastic frames. I don't want to be associated with hipsters, not because I dislike them personally (you'll also remember I've argued they mostly don't exist) but because of the contempt so many people have for them. I don't want to look like the star of some twee independent movie, but I also, to borrow a quote from some blogger, don't want to look like an Ikea furniture designer either. So now I have to take that into consideration as I'm currently shopping around for new frames.

I actually had an interesting conversation the other day with a young lad by the name of Jester's brother and he brought up a good point concerning the prevalence of black-framed glasses.

"Wouldn't you want to look hip in any situation?"

End of thread.
