I'm not 'merican... but would all agree that, left or right leanings aside, peoples right to peaceful protest has become the main issue? that's 1st amendment stuff, isn't it? If it's gotten to the point where kids having a peaceful sit-down protest ON A CAMPUS can be maced in the face, then the system sure aint working. It looks to the world outside like totalitarian police state type carrying's on. Needs some fixing up, huh.
Very true sir, though I think the discussion has moved by now into the realms of "effectiveness".
Is what OWS doing working ? Will they actually succeed ? Or is this just a simple exercise in self-indulgence ?
Nice Alan Moore piece! The madcap laughs...
I think it's pretty clear that OWC want some good things, they just need to clarify and sanity-ise 'em. A simple version might be:
-Disconnect investment banks from merchant banks (ie undo that bad, bad bill that happened in the Carter years), so that investment bankers can't gamble with people's personal funds or property.
-Make it illegal for those in congress or political parties to push through bills that directly favour their personal private business (ie. Cheny, Rumsfeld and Bush going to war in Iraq when they have 'interests' in - are the bosses of - the biggest arms manufacturing companies in the western world).
The same bad shit has happened globally. In NZ, the National Party has just been re-elected. the prime minister is an evil little shit who is an extremely succesful investment banker, he helped engineer the whole sub-prime scam with Merril Lynch, where his jolly workaday nickname was 'the smiling assassin'...
His plan for New Zealand is to make it a tax-free money sump for big business, just like he did in ireland. They come in and rape the economy, then get out before it crashes n' burns.
Oh, and also mining the crap out of our national parks. If i move back to NZ, it will be as a different kind of assassin.
