Yeah. No kidding.
Before they met me, they thought 'Aliens' and 'Predators' were only from AVP and AVP-R.

I'm going to see TGWTDT in an hour so I'm just gonna see if it's before that. Hopefully, it is, but for some reason, my screening of Sherlock Holmes at the same theater didn't have several of the regularly attached trailers in front of it. I dunno why either, I would've understood if it was just a stand-alone cinema, but it was a franchise one.

So I saw the trailer to this and it got me pretty excited for the film. Originally, I didn't know how much of a prequel to Alien it was going to be, but you can clearly see what appears to be LV-426 as well as the space jockey's vessel.

So I'm pumped.

Somewhat spiffing. I too had doubted its connections to Alien - after all, they moved away from making it a prequel - but that titling absolutely ties it to the franchise.

this, first thing that crossed my mind. after seeing the way the font plays out, it's definitely related to Alien. plus, space jockeys and all that.

My dad and I went over every second of it with a fine tooth comb, so to speak.
Lots of VERY interesting bits. I swear I saw a space jockey's severed head on an examining platform in what looks like a medical bay on the ship. Also when the space jockey's 'captain's chair', as it were, is clicking into place, I think its interesting to point out that its empty. If I have ANY forseeable complainants, its simply design-wise. Too colorful, too sleek looking. If this takes place in the Alien timeline when it seems to... we should be seeing rough, gritty looking tech. Alot of the stuff I'm seeing here looks too polished and futuristic. Especially by today's standards.

Look at the sequence of events and specifically what you're seeing happen in the trailer. Its still clearly a prequel that explains exactly what happened on LV-426 long before the Nostromo ever picked up that beacon.

I presume you're taking issue with me saying "they moved away from making it a prequel", but it's fact.
It was going to be an official prequel, then they (presumably Scott in particular) changed that.
Even if the difference consists entirely of the fact that "Alien" isn't in the title, we can only really regard it as an unofficial prequel in the same franchise.
My own understanding/interpretation is that - rather than being entirely focused on ending where the original started, which most prequels are - it's a parallel story that crosses familiar territory at several points, but by no means entirely.

Did I adequately answer your condescending "question"?

lol Dude you make it sound like I'm picking a fight.
Chronologically it takes place before Alien because thats the "derelict spacecraft" at the end of the trailer crashing into the position it was found in in Alien. Its a movie that sets up the stage for the events in Alien. How is that not a prequel?
Its set in the same universe, in the same setting, set before the first film in the franchise, dealing with very familiar looking things. If its not "officially" a prequel, then what do we call it? They even used the alien sounds in the trailer.

I also wasn't trying to be condescending at all. Was just pointing shit out.
Its a calm discussion bro. Not a heated argument. Please treat it accordingly.

And the failure is on AYB's end.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I didn't ask a question of any kind.

The actual footage looks awesome. And it's cool to know that Ridley Scott apparently hasn't forgotten what made Alien visually unique and applying it here. That said, I hated it because it used the whole horn sound teasers have been obsessed with since Inception. I'll still be seeing it, though, maybe but definitely leaning towards yes.

That sound is the same sound from the original Alien trailer...
Jack shit this has to do with Inception.

It's the alarm sound from the Alien trailer mixed with the Inception horn. So you could say I'm half wrong or half right anyway ;)
