Oh, feli. You haven't even gotten started yet.

Great as the first third is, it's mostly like a Chuck Jones cartoon. Just wait until the end of Book Four, when the story really starts becoming a true fantasy epic.

Yeah, I imagined it hadn't yet kicked into gear.

Still, there's a lot of charm and humor to the book as it stands up until page 86, I'm enjoying it so far.

The artwork definitely improves after the first volume.

I have the Bone game on stream, it came in a budget pack that included other games I wanted, but I never played it, honestly I have no experience with the Bone franchise, other than recognising the characters.

Last page I read was # 385.

I know I haven't reached the point between "cartoon" and "epic".

But it's already an amazing book, there's a capacity to elicit sheer tension and suspense that Jeff Smith achieves merely by manipulating shadows and contrasting imagery that is impressive, even more so than other similar comics like Sin City.

If this book only gets better, then it's certainly among the best things I've read, ever.

I think that's especially true of Eyes of The Storm.

Post in the Bone thread when you're done, then we can discuss the movie.

A film adaptation of Bone has been in development hell almost as long as the book has been out. It was only recently that they found a writer and a director who were crazy enough to try actually making the damn thing.

Were they thinking about an animated film or live-action ?

Just finished this. I just love the insane energy Swiercynski brings to crime fiction.

A cousin recently introduced me to a thousand-page work of historical fiction called "Pillars of the Earth." So far, it's much better than I'd have thought.

Apparently it's the shit as far as fantasy is concerned, apart from Song of Fire and Ice.

...Pretty sure you're thinking of something else, feli.

Ken Follett's novel is a fictional story that takes place in the Middle Ages, but it was clearly written with a very meticulous effort for historical authenticity. I don't see how it has anything to do with the works of Tolkien or George R.R. Martin.

Uuuuuuhhh, I said that, along with Martin's novels, Pillars Of The Earth is one of the most popular fantasy novels right now.

At least, I think it's from the fantasy genre, if my friend is to be trusted.

Curi's point was that it isn't.

Pillars Of The Earth was also made into a passable mini series. Which I watched. And enjoyed just enough to see through to the end. Haven't read the book though (which is apparently pretty good).

Yeah I know... Cool story, bro.

Bought this today.
Figured I should check out the source material since I dug the movie so much.
I like it. Alot.
Though I think though for this to work as a movie, you'd need to forget live action, and go with some insane animation.
Like... Peter Chung style. Or maybe even some augmented rotoscoping.
Something unique looking compared to all the animated stuff out now.
Something gritty and in your face. Hyper detailed on all the gore and shit.
The style of the animation itself should match the tone of the comic.
Do it right, and it'd be better and ballsier than anything you could do or get away with in live action.
