Great movie, makes sincere, honest statements about the nature of having a disease as horrible as cancer with some great humour, and without going into hyperbolic over-dramatization, with great performances from Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kendrick, Anjelica Huston, Bryce Dallas Howard, and even Seth Rogen, yes, Seth "Schlubby Schlubb" Rogen, in the "schlubbiest" role he'll ever play in his life !

Regardless, this movie, to me only, only presented a FAR more important question:

Image VS Image

Who's hotter ?

I feel like you could have used a better picture of Anna Kendrick.

Now it's tough to say.

Yeah, Hobo with a Shotgun is pretty fucking intense.

Regarding the 50/50 babes, there's no denying that BDH is extremely hot. That said, Kendrick is much more my type.

HWAS was just over an hour and 15 minutes of innocent people getting killing in the worst ways possible.
By the time Rutger started kicking ass I was already done with the movie.
Those two black plague guys were cool though.
ortherwise it's not something I'd care to see again.

Hard Rain - 7.7/10
with a cast that could headline a rom-com and a story that belongs in a 'wrath of nature' flick ala Dante's Peak... its strange this didn't suck more.
Had John Woo been directing this might really have been a gem. But as it is, its just an hour and a half of throwaway fun.

Bryce by far my friend, Kendrick is pretty; cute; nice whatever, but Howard is actually hot.

this is fair, is think I would be intimidated by BDH's looks, but AK is kind of more approachable looking.

Ironically, Kendrick has a better body than BDH, the latter being prettier......my opinion at least.

that's fair enough, I don't really take body into consideration, but AK's height puts me off, and she looks kind of dorky in some pictures, i actually find the dorkiness cute, but it's certainly not "hot".

Anyway, I watched this in my sci-fi class.

It was pretty good and the special effects are amazing for a 30's production.

6/10

And thus, Feliciano Frontado, is now ready for The Avengers.

I try to see that score of mine as more of a "three stars out of five" rather than "plain mediocre" because the truth is that this is the best Marvel movie I've seen since the first Iron Man, yet, like all the other Marvel films, there's a certain point where it becomes a typical, generic, goin'-through-the-motions superhero movie straight from the assembling line (ha), there's a lot of virtues to this movie, even if it invests more time in the flaws.

The Good:

The retro aspect truly makes it unique, the athmosphere feels real and it's great how it takes advantage of being historical fiction. Now, I haven't read as much Captain America as some, but one of the best parts is when Cap is playing propaganda figurehead to the US government, it's something I didn't expect, and it builds great foundations and a natural flow to his eventual turn into the hero that he is to become.

The Red Skull...........................oh boy, did I not see this coming, in fact, I liked him so much in this movie that I could almost complain about how we didn't got more of his "We have left humanity behind" banter, very little I felt came from Weaving's performance actually, he is good, but he has done better. What's great is how the character takes the "Übermensch" aspect of Nazi philosophy and incorporates it to such a degree, that he already thinks the aryans themselves are inferior to him ! Awesome sauce, hope we get to see more of him in the future.

The Bad:

Generic, standard script, weak little fellow wants to do good --> (plot device) --> no longer weak little fellow --> Evil villain wants to destroy all the world --> (plot device) --> Evil villain has the means to do so --> Action scene --> Romance --> Action scene --> More action scenes --> Final action scenes --> Final confrontation with evil villain --> Incredibly noble, altruistic, self-sacrificing action --> The End.

As mentioned, the generic, standard action scenes which populate the second and third act, they're nothing special, and none of them ever amount to any tension or excitement, it made the movie feel more like just another mediocre blockbuster instead of the unique superhero tale it was trying to be in the beginning.

Finally...........sorry Brooklyn, I tried:

But Steve Rogers.................still sucks. I can honestly say that the tire in "Rubber" had far more pathos than him, and that "character" comes from a movie whose sole purpose is to exemplify to it's audience the concept of "no reason".

It's one thing when characters are written as mysterious and have obscure motivations that the audience has to figure out, it's a completely different thing when you have a blank slate of a person, and you insert into it a plethora of positive aspects and good characteristics, mixed in with some patriotism, and suddenly feel that's all it takes to make a character to be sympathetic and believable. Now I know how the patriotic aspect is inspiring to some people, I can understand that, but I hardly see how suddenly that replaces the need for plausible behaviors and substantial motivations, both of which Steve Rogers has none.

All in all, I thought it was an entertaining movie that could've been better, but whose virtues elevate it to a degree that merits at least some sort of mention...............

.............and dat Red Skull........oh boy !

I haven't see that movie, or Thor, or the last Iron Man movie. I think if I see the Avengers, I'd probably just watch it without checking out the other movies. Really, how lost would I be without seeing them?

That's a very good question.

To be honest, I don't think the movie will require more than basic comic book knowledge on the characters, but it is kind of the point to see all the characters after you've seen each on his own.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing, I've got a buddy who is pretty clueless about comic book characters, and hasn't seen any of the previous Marvel movies, but he's a huge Joss Whedon fan and really wants to see the Avengers.

I really doubt you need to see the other movies to understand it, but I imagine basic knowledge of the characters involved would be helpful.

This is what I'm thinking. I mean, I'm sure there will be some bits of dialog that will explain the situation. It's probably enough to know that the Avengers are the good guys and that they'll be banding together against some enemy.

This movie sucks. The visuals are bland, the score is bland, and the screenplay is godawful. Glenn Close ruins her own A-game performance by crafting a horribly written character for herself.

This might be worth a rental for anyone who's a fan of Mia Wasikowska or Aaron Johnson. Other than that, don't waste your time.

Puppet ants!

In preparation for puppet wolves!

By the way, before scoffing occurs, this has a 100% rating on rotten tomatoes.

Edit:

Wow. I don't even.

My head needs to re-adjust.

Its the kind of ADHD, over-sexed, gross-out, immature, nonsensical, insane, and super fucking weird animation byproduct of the youtubing, 4chan'ing, internet generation that exists only 'because'.

I loved it.

A Separation

If you have any tolerance at all for foreign movies, I HIGHLY recommend this film. It's a remarkably compelling slice-of-life film (from Iran, of all places!) with exquisitely realized characters and a deceptively clever plot. Easily worth all the awards and nominations it's received already.
