I am 42. I was 16 when I first read Watchmen and wasn't impressed- I don't think I grasped the concept; I was too young. But I have been collecting comics for over 30 years and have my entire collection of books- enough to fill a small room.

I have three comic book claims to fame.

First, I was at a con in the late 70's NYC. My older brother took me there. Jack Kirby was there. Didn't get to meet him though, but we were in the same room and I was a kid.

Second was when I formed a Valiant Fan Club that in essense, was an outlet for them to lend artists to me for interviews and autograph sessions for online distribution in the mid 90's. I ended up today with a treasure trove in the attic.

Third, I put on my own comic book convention in White Plains NY in 2000. IN attendance were all the great living comic book artists except for Bob Kanigher, Alan Moore (who I did invite but never replied), and Stan Lee... and Matt Murphy too- EiC of Gold Key. All the rest of the greats were there. As the opening letter of the con fanbook reads- "statistically, any co0mic book made has a more than 50% chance of having someone here who wrote, drew art, inked or edited that book from 1938 to present.".

It was an awesome con and went down as planned and I planned it to be awesome- all we were missing was the fireworks but personally that con cost me $24,000 out of my pocket in the end as there was such a low attendance. I still nod my head at the notion of getting to meet your comic book hero artist for eight bucks at the door- no less looking at all the living history around you.

So as you can imagine, I have a vested interest in the art of comic books.

I am wondering about the rest of you. My collection of books is perhaps 50 long boxes with half of them full of multiple copies of books and some full of 1-3 books.

Most of us are pretty young, I think, with a couple active members in their forties.

I'm twenty. Pretty much a sperm.

Yeah.

Not only that, but my father is a comic book. My mother has so many paper cuts.

Still just a bad idea.

I swear that the year you were born changes every time you're asked.
Anyway, I'm 1991, turning 21 this year.

Yeah I know that you came clean eventually, but how do you explain this post, from Oct 15, 2010, when you would have been 16:

She had to leave to north carolina, i had to say goodbye.
I watched as she left on the bus, looking back at me through that dirty window.
I waved back all misty eyed.
First time I ever cried over a girl.

(unless you call crying in pain "crying over a girl". In that case it was Tabitha Johnson who, on the last day of 5th grade, beaned me in the balls 4 times with a waterballoon that wouldnt burst.)

Well to be honest, I was 15 when I was with her.
But that wouldn't sound right would it?
So, I just lied about it.

I never forget anything, so you should probably take that into account before getting on my bad side.

I was born July 18th, 1987.
