The unofficial motto of my city is "Keep Portland Weird." If there's any place in the world that welcomes and encourages hipster culture, it's my hometown.

I thought about hijacking this thread to respond to that, but no. I'm not dignifying that with an answer.

It was just a joke, although maybe it was in bad taste.

Just a joke?

You know, Hitler had pieces of flare he made the Jews wear.

Don't get t3cii started on that guy. He'll give you the "Misunderstood Hero" lecture.

I know nothing about Portland. Not enough to even have misconceptions about it.
But I liked that hipster comedy show on IFC, Portlandia.

Yeah, that's the same thing that I was doing.

I'm thinking I should probably stop taking part in these jokes. My grandfather was killed while serving as a sea captain during the second world war. I guess it's not something I really think about, but he literally was killed by Nazis.

You are the first person to say something like that.

BTW, t3cii, I'm sorry about your grandfather.

HA HA...that's ok, I never met him (obviously). And it's not like some touchy subject with me. It's just that I tend not think of his death in details. My mother was just born when his ship was torpedoed by a German submarine. Although I'm not sure if being a German soldier and being a Nazi during the second world war are necessarily the same thing. I don't know, I just recently developed had an aversion to Nazi jokes.

Because they haven't realized that Roddenberry is a hack.

Say what you will about Roddenberry, but at least he's dead. He's therefore unable to fuck up his creation any more than he already did in life.

This puts him on significantly higher footing over George Lucas.

nothing wrong with liking star trek, but bringing it up all of a sudden and using a LCARS theme a decade since Voyager went off the air seems a bit hipster-ish.

Yes, but unlike Star Wars, the Star Trek spinoffs have gotten shittier and shittier, whereas it's the opposite for Star Wars. Sorry, but Star Wars EU > Star Trek EU.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Seriously man, I've never met a Star Wars apologist of your caliber.

What few Star Trek I've seen, it was good, the problem with that franchise is that it just became a property that isolated itself more and more, and thus, it was left in an unprofitable sector of the audience's mind, in a time where geeks weren't considered the target demographic, unlike today.
