So I've read in some places that people consider it an insult to Noomi Rapace that Rooney Mara got the nom for TGWTDT. I don't think this is the case at all, Mara practically carried Fincher's film, she was absolutely excellent. Strange but also very likeable at times, not only were her lines brilliant, but the delivery of them was spot on. She more than deserves the nomination, and although I can understand that Rapace "did it first" as it were, that doesn't make Mara any less deserving of her nomination imo. What do you think?

Also I really think TGWTDT should've got a nomination for the score, although I'm an unashamed Trent Reznor fanboy, so...

Agreed. I don't just think she deserves her nom; I think she deserves to win.
It's no insult to Rapace, though she should have been nominated last year.

I also found myself thinking about it but it's because Malick uses cinema in the purest sense of the word and being that it's a film where dialogue is so minimal and the visuals express so much, of course it's going to be difficult to set it apart.

Unless you're Stanley Kubrick

That's pretty high and mighty talk from someone who fixes Malick's drains for a living.

It might be rather condescending to say this, but I do believe Fincher's adaptation of TGWTDT is objectively the superior film-adaptation.

Also, those people are idiots.

It isn't condescending, it's Hollywood at its best.

From Russel Crowe's twitter.

@russellcrowe
I note that the australian academy has nominated both Fassbender and Gosling for Best International actor.

As if Russell Crowe wasn't already awesome enough.

I like that he's honest. He doesn't pull any (phone-throwin') punches.

The Australian Academy has a Best International Actor category? I can't decide whether that's a good or bad idea.

Mostly agree, but i'd rather Rango won best animated film over kung fu panda 2,

Also muppet or man was my favourite song from the muppets so I'm glad that's nominated, but i'd like to have seen Star Spangled Man nominated, especially when there were only 2 nominations. I'm fact I feel that superhero movies have been completely snubbed this year, thor should have a costume design nom ifeel, and I wouldn't have been surprised if any of the 3 major superhero movies got am art direction nom.

If it weren't for Rango (and the fact that Tin-tin failed to be nominated for bullshit reasons), I'd be completely fine with Kung-Fu Panda 2 taking the award. It was one of my biggest surprises of last year, and a gorgeous animated feature as well.

The more I think about it, the more I really don't like that it's becoming inevitable that "The Artist" will walk out with Best pic. That's not to say I didn't enjoy "The Artist;" unlike the absolute in mediocrity known as "The King's Speech," "The Artist" is a delightful experience that really doesn't deserve the praise its been awarded. Not only do I consider it the weakest film in its director's work, but Hugo does the whole "commentary on film" much better.
