Some great camera work in this as I recall, and the Cage/Sinise chemistry is really good.

Thats its two best qualities.
Otherwise... its nothing special.

I'd even go so far as to say Cage is outright annoying for the first 20 minutes.
As a character he doesn't even become agreeable until more than half way in.

And Sinese could play this character in his sleep.
Half the time he looks like he'd rather be asleep.

As a whole, the movie isn't terrible. Its okay.
But its so unimpressive it might as well have been terrible.
I wouldn't care either way.

The Tree of Life (2011)- 10/10

Entirely engrossing, a complex meditation on life and it's emotions along with the attitudes we take to our roles. Presented via cerebal visuals, a stunning design. I really was into Brad Pitt's performance, the young ensemble was also quite strong. Probably my favorite film of 2011 so far.

Finally saw this straight through. Really enjoyable and Brodie and T.S. really remind me of myself in their own ways.

Before seeing this movie, I had the whole "Superman having sex" thing completely sorted out.

Damn you Brodie, damn you.

The Hulk, The Thing, Mr. Fantastic, I feel like superheroes either get really screwed over or really lucky when it comes to having sex post-origin.

Christ on a cracker. Mallrats was fun, but this was genuinely meaningful.

I kind of think that Chasing Amy is the most over rated of the Smith films.

It's good, don't get me wrong, but I don't adore it like some people do.

No strings attached, not bad, slightly unconventional but that just adds to it's quality, but I think it will date horribly.

Better than it has right to be - it's unique brand of unsentimental charm and humour mark it apart from the well-worn path. Hilarious at times, very well cast and consistently entertaining.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Haven't we seen this movie before ? Like a hundred times ?

Don't get me wrong, some action scenes were good, Amber Heard and Nicholas Cage were great, but overall it's just something that does little to stand out, I know I've seen this movie countless times, I can hardly find any reason to really call it "awesome".

Probably should've heeded SkaOreo's warning

Airplane!

How did I ever last so long without this demented, absurdist work of comedic genius in my DVD library?

Anyway, my local Blockbuster has finally closed, and I've done my last DVD raid. Airplane! makes 8 movies down from my overall take. Only 54 more to go.

Yes indeed. I've shown it to several friends and they're always caught off guard by the end. They get so emotionally attached to the characters, the way the react to it makes it seem like it was about them. The writing is so strong.

On a side-note, this film heavily influenced my views on love and sexuality, particularly Alyssa's point on not leaving any doors closed as to finding the "one who perfectly compliments" you.

Yeah, it was a pretty crazy emotional roller coaster and I could certainly identify with the characters a bit.

Anyway, musical night.

Joey Lauren Adams never really had much of a career after making that movie, did she?

I'm guessing the living annoyance that is her voice never left her much of a chance.
