I swear to christ...
A year or so ago I said to myself "Tom Hardy could be a decent Mad Max"
Then THIS.

Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.

I'm in. Fuck yes.

Apparently not on the MTV blog.

Regardless, this is new news to me. And I'm stoked.

Dude, you also think Tom Hardy would be great as Don Corleone.
Hell, I think I heard you once proclaim that he "shoulda been cast as the sledge in Citizen Kane"...

I've never even seen Citizen Kane.

And at least I've stopped fancasting Sam Worthington into everything. *coughDEADSPACEcough*

And wouldn't Hardy be great as Max? From everything I've seen of his, he can pull this off in spades.
My only other pick for Max was guy pearce.
And my original thought was Pearce would be Max, and Hardy would be his partner. In a reboot/remake of course.
But the more I thought about it...

Yes.

This whole time I thought it was called Fury Road, I must be dyslexic.

edit: nope, I checked, it's definitely called Fury Road.

I should probably watch the first one someday, I know I liked the second one but I never got around to seeing the original.

The first one is a completely different beast. Real-world, guerrilla-style production. Very Australian feel, before it became a Hollywood franchise.

I really preferred the first one over the second.

Proof, ladies and gents, that Godziller is in fact a robot.

All three movies are totally different. Even Max himself had such a wildly inconsistent personality between the movies that he could have been traded out by a completely different protagonist each time and it wouldn't have made any difference. This is the main reason why it doesn't remotely faze me that Mel Gibson isn't starring.

Me too.
By the third film, the entire production was fashioned from Tina Turner's hairspray.

Well, the main difference between the first film and the sequels is that the first is a dystopian film, it's more about what happens when mankind falls. The sequels are just straight up post-apocalyptic, what comes after that breaching point.

The other thing is that Max is a prime example as to how far a person can go, go that one extra step, and then come back. Redemption doesn't really come full swing until later, and by the end of Thunderdome, he's back to a somewhat normal person, living in a not-so-normal world.

I'm wondering what direction the character could go at this point, after he's just regained his humanity in helping a bunch of kids fly away to their deaths (lol).

I'm sure I will be bringing down wrath, but my least favorite Mad Max film is the first one, and my favorite is the third. Sorry.

Nothing against the first one, but that's more of a biker gang movie, not a post-apocalyptic/sci-fi movie - which is more of what I like.

I can understand liking the sequels over the first, but Thunderdome doesn't come close to beating out TRW.

My order of best films

The Road Warrior
Mad Max
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome

Also, the thread title is still Road Fury, lol.
