A blast. Some of the special effects haven't aged that well, but this is still a wonderfully tense, very well made genre movie.

I'm embarrassed to admit, I never saw the first one. But yeah, pretty great movie.

*gets done choking on own spittle*

I prefer the first one, but I don't think either one's really better than the other. They're both very good, very different types of movies.

I dunno, Alien is pretty close to perfection, and is one of those rare 10/10 movies, Aliens is just a 9/10.

To me this and the first two terminator movies have always been in the same situation. All 4 films are excellent, but which you prefer in each respective series seems to always depend upon taste. Terminator was a great sort of sci do thriller, but I prefered T2's intense action. Same thing with alien/aliens.

Alien, Aliens, The Terminator and T2 are all fantastic movies.
All four in my 'all time top 20'.
But Aliens and T2 are in the 'top 5 all time favorites'.

I do however occasionally wish Alien never had sequels.
They explain away the mystery when stuff gets revealed.
Queen aliens? Drones? Hives?
Yeah... nobody knew that stuff about this creature in 1979.
For all the original audience knew, the Alien killed because it liked it.
There was a thrill in not knowing what it was and if it had purpose.
Not knowing, for me, seemed scarier.

I'm looking forward to Ridley pooping all over the established canon this summer. then the mystery will be back, maybe.

A good assesment indeed.

Personally, I think people overreacted to T3.

T3 was like a bad version of T2.

I wouldn't say "bad" precisely, yes, it follows the same formula, yes, it's not as exciting and as well done as T2, but there's a lot of great moments to it.

And I should fucking know, I watched T2 the first time when I was five years old.

I'll admit it wasn't completely terrible, the chase sequence near the beginning of the film always impressed me quite a bit.

The movie was more unnecessary than anything, I guess.

I'll definitely agree to this. It's actually an enjoyable movie (I have it on HD dvd haha) and overall it's a good action film. I think the issues lie in its superfluous nature. It doesn't add much to the overall mythology and is a summer action film versus even T2's gritty action film tone. The only thing it really offers is another journey with the characters we've come to love. And at least this one was superfluous and fun, whereas salvation was just superfluous.

About the mythology................I gotta disagree.....slightly.

If there's anything that's fantastic about T3, truly fantastic, it's that ending, which I thought was better than T2's.

I'm not saying T2's ending is bad, it's still a great ending with memorable, deathless scenes. But for a movie with so much violence, death, maiming, etc. The ending really does nothing except to say "it's over", it's not really a happy, uplifting, sad, or tragic ending, it's just an ending.

T3 on the contrary, is quite the fucking slap on Cameron's face, at the very least !

Also, just check out this shit, granted, it wasn't in the movie, which I consider sinful:

Man, I totally knew what that was gonna be before I clicked it.

But yeah, that was pretty funny.

I don't know what was worse, cutting this scene from T3 or cutting Hollis' death scene from the Watchmen movie.

If its Sgt.Candy yeah.

"We can fix it."

Love that.
I saw T3 in theaters when I was 9 or ten.
I already had seen T2 a few times.
Wanted to be the T-800 for halloween once... but my teacher wouldn't allow it.
However, my Phys Ed teacher told me I could've gotten away with John Connor. lol.

T3 left me underwhelmed. But its OKAY.
I actually liked Salvation more. It felt grittier.
And "You Could Be Mine" was icing on the cake.
I do firmly believe that not since Edward Furlong has John Connor been cast properly either.
I like Bale, but not as Connor.

Yeah, you know why Edward Furlong doesn't have a career anymore ?

Contrary to what may be obvious to some, it has nothing to do with drugs.

No, it would be Detroit Rock City and American History X.

Is it cuz he's an uggo? Or because child actors never succeed? (I'm looking at touch kid from the phantom menace who is also an uggo.)

Possibly the fact he was The Crow in one of the lame Crow sequels.

Saw the second half or so of this.

I really liked the special effects, I'll have to see the whole thing sometime.

So far from your average underdog movie. Unbelievably intense and emotional. The length of the film (2 hours 19 mins) is entirely justified given the journey that the characters go through. I really, really enjoyed this film. It's totally absorbing, unflinchingly brutal, and at times, incredibly honest. Well worth your time.

8.5/10
