Let me just say, when I said I had doubts about Depp as Tonto, it was nothing to do with race. It was more to so with Depp's penchant for over acting.

This aint gonna be no Dances With Wolves.

Tongue in cheek, irreverent foolishness, turning the tale on it's head is what I anticipate.

Anyway, it wouldna got made if it weren't for Depp being so keen on it, so the whole 'get a real injun' argument is moot.

... which likely woulda been effing brilliant, if the studio hadn't freaked out over what Michel Gondry was doing and fucked it up. If yr gonna hire Gondry, let him do his shit!!!!

With Green Hornet, it was more likely the involvement of Seth Rogen.

With Lone Ranger, it's gonna be Disney. All of their tentpole pictures over the last couple of years have dropped the ball so badly in some way or another that I've completely lost faith in them. The only way this is going to result in anything positive is if they've learned from the bloated budget and the woefully mismanaged promotion of John Carter. But I'm not holding my breath.

Am I nuts or does the crow on Tonto's head look like it's going through different poses?

Oh, it's definitely doing different poses. why? I have no idea. maybe it'll be like a Rorschach mask thing.

I had assumed Depp was wearing an elaborate headdress, but you're right. Maybe it's still an elaborate headdress, but with a live crow to emphasize Tonto's mysticality, perhaps, or his Dr. Doolittle-like empathy with animals.

Or maybe it will like a running gag, where Armie Hammer looks askance at the crow every few minutes, and Depp gives him a confused "WHAT" kind of look. I hope that's not the case.

Yeah, and no Tim Burton anywhere. WEIRD.

Hey, William Fichtner and Tom Wilkinson are both in this, and they're great. But so is Barry Pepper, and he's awful.

I wouldn't say he's awful. Or particularly bad, for that matter. He's adequate.

He was great in "25th Hour" but strangely forgettable in everything else.

Anyway, I like Gore Verbinski and everyone involved, but like Curi said, the track record for Disney lately hasn't been the best.

He's not bad in *61, or Saving Private Ryan.

As well as Tommy Lee Jones' "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada".
