Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. Movie looks kind of terrible. There seems to be this need to make all movies set in that time period look like Dick Tracey or The Untouchables. It looks kind of hokey.

When the trailer for "Gangster Squad" came out, it became clear that Warner Bros could never show it in theaters, since there's a scene that has armed men stepping from behind the screen at a movie theater, firing at the audience. But the trailer (watch it here) was shown in theaters, and in front of "The Dark Knight Rises."

After the Colorado shootings, the studio immediately removed the trailer from rotation and is now considering removing that scene from the movie altogether. The problem is that the scene's placement is very important to the film and changing anything could result in re-shoots and delaying the September 7th release date.

Update: Variety has learned that Warner Bros will cut the scene from "Gangster Squad" and is now planning reshoots.

The scene is nothing more than a coincidence and has nothing to do with the tragedy, so it's not clear why the studio feels it's critical to change anything in the movie.

I've heard public enemies was slow...
So I avoided it.
Heres hoping this one is more action packed.

Public Enemies was... compromised. Beautifully scripted, acted, and shot...

it's visually a poor second to Boardwalk Empire.

To me, this is just stupid. I get that they are trying to be sympathetic to the victim's families... but at the same time, do they really think that this movie will be what makes those people feel horrible? they lost loved ones in a horrific way... they won't get over this any time soon, and seeing a movie that was shot well before the massacre isn't going to all of a sudden make them sad.
