Euhr... :?

I'm sure Ozymandias will be smoking quite some opium in the prequels.

Doc Manhattan's is my most anticipated one. And I can't believe I'm saying this, but I probably won't pick Rorschach and Comedian.
So far, so good... all I fear now is Lein Wein's decisions. That link you posted before, Godziller, sure was upsetting.

It's great of DC to provide such detailed info on these shitty prequels.

I was able to put together a Shit List of creators whose work I will never buy again because of their participation in this garbage. Thanks, DC!

And keep that info coming on future prequel shit so I can add to the list!

That is a little too much isn't it? the Watchmen world has such a rich amount of characters to play with, even if this prequel doesn't reach the magnitude of the original (and we all know it won't), I think these artists and writers should get some credit for wanting to play in this universe created by Moore and Gibbons, hell if I was given the chance I know I would love to play with these characters and see what I could do with them without answering questions that should never be answered or ask more questions. One thing that will be great to see is the Rorschach Nite Owl team-up which was hinted at but never explored. As a fan of this universe the more I get of it the better, if I don't like the way it meshes with the original then I will consider it more of a compilation of other creators uses of the characters.

Well, some of us believe the entire thing devalues the worth of the original comic, as well as being a violation of the rights of the original creators.

the violation of character rights is an interesting subject with Watchmen as Gibbons has given his approval of the Prequels. As he has as much ownership as the writer with him being the artist. Moore is also a bit of a hypocrite himself, before Watchmen was made he became known for other people's creations. Perhaps there is an unwritten rule of Moore's characters being much more important than others. (Don't take this the wrong way as I love Moore's writing and I also understand that he got the shaft and has been bitter ever since; However, what big corporation hasn't said what their employees want to hear to get what they want, then back track to their discretion. DC wasn't the first and it won't be the last.)

I have to say I'm sick to death of this tired old argument that "Moore did it, too!" Enough already!

Moore worked with serial characters owned by DC and followed in a long line of creators who have added a page to a character's history then turned it over to others. WATCHMEN was meant to break away from that. One work: beginning, middle, end. THE END.

Also when he took public domain characters and created new works he, let me say that again, took PUBLIC DOMAIN CHARACTERS! Which means you, me, Alan Moore and your Aunt Sally can do stories with them. Also, these characters fell into the public domain long after their creators had OWNED THEM FOR A LIFETIME and benefited from and controlled their use. Also the works he created with this public domain characters were never meant to SEQUELS, PREQUELS or in any other way be connected to the original works. The shitty prequels are meant to be canon, extra chapters in a story that did not and does not need them.

Throw in DC's gangster business practices to seal the deal and you have some idea why those opposed are oppose. At least one DC write has quite because of this garbage. Others have spoken out against it. There's even a facebook page: Boycott Before Watchmen, which links to the myriad of articles delving into what I've explained above.

I know a lot of so-called comics fans don't give a damn how they get their pretty pictures but a lot do and are having their say. Oh, sure, it won't stop the books selling by the zillions. But when you read Moloch #299 one day, you might see how diluted the original work will become.

My only argument on the Character violations was about Gibbons owning the characters as well, and I do understand Moore's feelings on the subject, most other creators though are humbled at others using their character's in other works, for example Mignola's series of novels with other authors writing hellboy in non-canon, which is what I plan on thinking as these Before Watchmen despite DC saying the contrary.
