I forgot, did you watch Paranoia Agent? That's another anime that masters its material while also being very short and compact.

Nu uh. You recommend it? would I like it?

You should. It's highly praised and it might be my favorite piece of anime I've ever seen.

Not that I've seen a ton, but still. But anyway, I recommended it to Smutty and he loved it even though he generally hates anime.

Yeah I'm pretty picky. Though I saw Elfin Lied which was oddly watchable.
Uh, yeah, Dead Leaves, Cowboy Bebop, Akira, Steamboy, Appleseed, Appleseed (2004), Appleseed ExMachina,
I haven't actually finished Ghost in the Shell but like FLCL was, its one I'm determined to eventually sit through.
Some of Ninja Scroll, some of Afro Samurai, some of Desert Punk, some of Golgo 13.
*shrug*

I finally got done with the 1st season of The Wire. I LOVED it. Not the easiest thing to watch especially since it's so close to the reality I see in local news everyday, but that makes it precisely a show that should be mandatory to watch anywhere and everywhere.

Also, I finished 4th season of Mad Men. It's been my favorite so far. Amazing how it dared to ruin Don's cool factor and see his inner demons. But not just for him, but for every character.

:o ! Bummer.....

Regardless, it's good you've gotten into two amazing shows, if you can, keep the thread updated with your thoughts on The Wire, that show can be endlessly discussed and disected on every single issue, it's just brilliant. I would really really REALLY like to hear your thoughts on the events of the third season, YOU of all people must have quite the opinion on it !

In any case, see both as it suits you best, they're amazing shows.

Totally. I've actually been following Mad Men more or less since it began, but always on DVD. But it has taken me a while to watch each season on DVD, fortunately, the 4th one it took me the shortest time. About a year : p

I can't wait to see how things unfold on The Wire.

I've put it on hold since right now I'm spending my free time on an Xbox game I bought a while ago, hence why I haven't updated yet, still, I'll probably start the fourth season this week, if University doesn't fuck me in the ass again at least !

did anybody else give the pilot to this a shot?

Boxleitner reprises his role as Tron, and the animation is superb. I think this hold a lot of promise for telling a quality story as well as being visually pleasing.

Your post reminded me about it, and I just downloaded and watched the pilot.
I'm thoroughly impressed.
It has a decent plot, some great animation, and its just as action packed as Legacy.
Also,
did anyone notice they stole music cues from The Matrix and Inception?

For specifics, (mild spoilers ahead)
When that general dude sets down and commandeers their disc field, when they do the pan-up of the statue or whatever, music cue from the matrix for like three seconds.

Next it 'Dream is collapsing' from inception when Beck is hanging from the train.

And so, FELICIANO IS BACK IN THE GAAAAAAAAAAAME !

BIG spoilers ahead Oscar ! Stay away :o !

Image

First episode is done, and I deffinitely can describe my impressions of this season in a single word:

AMBITIOUS

Seriously, we have like five or four different institutions at work here, and in each there's one or two storylines deriving from one of the settings, such as the new "Public School" segments with Pryzbylewiski, and the "Government" shenanigans with Carcetti and MUTHAFUCKIN' HERC, best surprise in the episode, I foreshadow inmense amounts of hilarity already.

Also, it was great to see each character being in a different place now (Herc and McNulty as the best examples) and how much have changed those that have remained "untouched" like Lester and Kima, seriously, the task force is severely weakened this season, and without Daniels, Pryzbylewski and McNulty doing mayhem, I can't see it working like in previous seasons, a minor concern in my opinion, but not particularly something that will bring down the show to me, from day one this has always been a series that deals with issues that are bigger than "cops and robbers".

Also, a question:

*Sounds the t3cii horn*

What is happening with the Barksdale boys ? Were they absorbed by Prop Joe ? I remember some stuff from the last season, but Marlo saying that Bodie and all the others are a "independent" crew now didn't leave me fully clarified.

Wire Spoilers bitches!

So, what did you think of the end of season 3? In particular, the end of Avon and Stringer? Season 3 is my favorite of the series, and I loved the final few episodes. Omar and Brother Mouzone (spelling?) have a wild west like standoff, and prompted me to use it as my signature.

These kids are gonna break your heart. It's a bold move introducing us to such young characters, but this season has the most heart out of any season of the series, and a lot of it is thanks to those four boys.

Also bold? McNulty is barely in this season. Seriously, no spoilers, but don't expect a lot of face time from him.

The Barksdales are done, long live King Marlo and his Stanfield regime!

Okay, basically Marlo won the war. If I recall correctly, guys like Bodie and Poot are up for grabs since they no longer technically work for Avon. The world of these crews is one of revolving membership, after all. It should be more clear after the next two or three episodes. But for now, the Stanfields have taken over the Barksdales territory, and will be the primary crew the detail deals with. So, anyone can either join, or "step off".

Brilliant season overall, nothing about the show has made me back down in any moment from it, as I said, I probably stumbled a little bit at the final episodes of season 1 since the political, bureaucratic aspects of the show started to see the light and it caught me off guard a little bit, it's the only time I've felt the show confused me a bit.

Even season 2, which seems to be the least liked, was pretty awesome to me, sure, it probably wasn't the best move to shift the focus from "badass gangstas" to "fat-ass white dock workers", but it was still great in my opinion.

Season 3 just takes everything to even greater heights while having shenanigans with the Barksdale Crew and Marlo's rising crew, it has by far the best scenes with Omar ! If you didn't love that guy before, you sure as shit were destined to root for him in this season, that scene with Mouzone ? HELL YEAH !

Also, R.I.P. Stringer Bell, I'm betting Idris Elba will be forever grateful of the character that MADE his career

I already feel bad about Dukie.......................he's gonna die right ?

I expected this, I saw an article that mentioned his absence was due to the actor making a lot of movie commitments during the filming of season four, it's............okay, at least his character is in the right place, unlike most shows with characters that are shit people who "never change", they've actually done the opposite with McNulty, and it frikkin worked ! He is aware of how poisonous D.T. life is for him, and so he has made a decision that has actually benefited his life.

Also, he got the hot redhead, HELL TO THE YES.

What about Avon ? Back in jail completing his sentence I assume.

If I was him, I wouldn't want to go back after all the shit that went down in season 3  !

Yep. I think that was kind of tough, transitioning from the Barksdales to the Stanfields, mostly because Marlo lacks the charisma of Avon or Stringer, and because Chris and Snoop are so cold. Like, I could root for the Barksdale crew, but I couldn't root for the Stanfield crew, even though Marlo runs a tighter crew, I think. Although I did (eventually) come around to appreciating Marlo as a character. But remember that scene where Avon and Slim Charles go over a list of possible soldiers to call forth, and discover the crew is weak? That's why Marlo won. D'angelo was killed, Bird and Stinkum were in jail, Cutty decided to retire, Avon and Stringer were bickering, and Stringer screwed over Brother M.

Pure wild west. They even have a train whistling in the background. Such great dialog too. "you might not hit me", "at this range? With this caliber? Even if I miss I can't miss!". So great.

I don't want to ruin anything, but you'll come to learn that some things are inevitable, while some things aren't. I know that's kind of cryptic, but this show usually doesn't lead you down the path you think it's leading you, while at the same time, once you get to the destination, you wonder how you didn't see it coming before.

I don't know if it's because the show hasn't let the guy who plays Marlo to truly flex his muscles as an actor, or if it's the character himself who seems so bland, specially compared to Chris and Snoop who are just fucking ruthless, that scene where they killed the guy with the plastic wrap paper ? And Lex ? Holy shit !

Also, don't tell me I won't see any more Slim :o ! I fucking love that nigga !

I think it's just the character. He seems like how someone who has no problem killing someone over something petty would be like. It's easy to forget these are cold, almost emotionless, individuals.

Slim's still in the game, but he's never more than a supporting player, although he does get one of the most satisfying moments of the series.
