Is it just me or does the trailer look like it's taking itself far too seriously for that title?

Way too much, the concept itself just seems off-putting to me already.

Was it so hard to make a GOOD Solomon Kane movie ? Or something similar ?

The book is brilliant, and the author wrote the film. For the story to work, it has to take itself very seriously. It tackles slavery, racism, and controversial history... and vampires. It tackles them with axes. And it'll make you cry. Tears of BLOOD.

Seth Grahame-Smith also wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
He is working on Beetlejuice with Tim Burton and Michael Keaton.

I would think comic book and horror fans might be able to get their teeth into this concept. The blend of history and fiction is very smart... uses slavery as a metaphor for vampirism (or vice versa), and offers a unique gothic-horror subtext to the civil war. Bloody good stuff.

Digging the delivery of the Abraham Lincoln 'recordings'... sounds like Johnny Cash!

The real Lincoln apparently had a shrill and slightly unpleasant voice. A hindrance which, once he got talking, the passion and commitment of his manner completely overcame.

For me it's hard to dissociate it from Zack Snyder's incredible DOTD opening titles.

I rather dig this trailer. I wouldn't say it was taking itself seriously per se, but allowing the title to do the funny (and showing that the film will be cool as well).

It was a foregone conclusion anyway:

Mark me in the middle. Visually it's interesting and I feel like it could come off as being very cool if done right. However the concept is just too jarring for me to get too hopeful. I'll take it with a grain of salt, though that Burton-producing credit makes me feel a bit better about it.
