I recently finished a version 2 draft 1 of my short film, and the response from my production company and lecturer's has been really positive :)
It's a little rough being the first draft and all, but I'm really happy with where we're taking it. The original script consisted practically of an interview with flashbacks. We've gone into the premise and thematic core of what the original writer was doing and found the actual story, and he's stoked.

I'd really love to show you guys the film somehow once it's done; It's a Superhero Drama. ;)

Sweet. I'd be excited to watch it.

Watchmen was obviously an influence for me, and why I was so keen to do the script in the first place. The premise itself was really intriguing to me; what would happen if a Superhero lost his superpowers? How would he cope? How would he react? It's really a story of lost identity. Avengers it ain't, hence the term Superhero Drama. We're currently in Script Development for the next 4 weeks, then Pre-Production for 7 weeks. Seems so far away, but the time is already flying by ...

So here's a podcast recorded during C3 (the con I was at last weekend).

http://www.aroundcomics.com/?p=1370

Interviewed are: Dan Way, Tony Moore, Doug (the co-owner of my local comic shop), and Ryan Stegman (who talks about me a bit...)

That's actually me in the picture (in the red shirt) standing behind Dan Way

Last night, at around 6 or 6:30, there was a shooting in a major shopping mall. 1 person is dead, seven other injured, one of which was a 13 year old boy. Pretty scary as this is a mall I'm in fairly often, in fact just last week I was there doing some shopping. They haven't found the suspect yet.

shit man, that would shake me up,

I foresee an escalation in mall security pretty soon though.

Goddamn it, this isn't supposed to happen in Canada.

Of course there will be. Everyone gets super defensive immediately after a shooting because people are reactive rather than proactive and it never does any good.

Well, at least it happens pretty rarely. Although back in 2005, just a block from the mall, a girl was shot and killed on boxing day.

I'd say security was pretty substantial to begin with. But I'm not sure what they could have done to prevent something like this. The shooting took place in the food court. Sitting down to some fast food in a mall isn't usually something you have to be cautious about. I mean, who expects something like this to happen? This isn't a mall in a dangerous part of the city. It's the largest mall in the heart of the city, a tourist spot that spans several blocks. It connects to two subway stations, several other buildings, as well as the largest underground shopping complex in the world. The area is so big, and the number of people that are there is so large, I'm not sure adding more security would make a difference. But they would be doing it as a way of easing people's minds. It might not hurt to have a visible police presence.

As for myself, I'll probably avoid the mall for a while, just while things settle down. But I'll go back soon enough. I've never felt worried about walking downtown, and this hasn't really changed my mind. But it is a bit worrying that this shooting is almost certainly gang related. And such a brazen act of violence. I mean really, a shopping mall?

There's no transition for this, but does anyone else think Michael Fassbender would make a good live-action Flash?

Or (Professor) Zoom maybe?

No, he'd be a pretty bad flash, imo.

I think he'd be a better zoom, but after his turn as Magneto I doubt he'll jump ship, if I recall there are only a handful (like 2 or 3) people who have played characetrs for both DC and Marvel

Hm, I guess that makes sense.

Update

The shooter turned himself in yesterday. He had been under house arrest at the time of the shooting. The shooting supposedly isn't gang related, although both the shooter and the man who died are both in a gang together. Rather, I think the shooting was something personal.

There are GANGS in Canada ?

Excuse me if I make a hasty judgement, but Canada seems like the last place in the entire american continent to have criminal gangs !
