I dont know if there is already a post about this but which comic or gn started your collection. I just recently started collecting and I first read watchmen. What was your favorite/least favorite.

I'm pretty sure that Watchmen was my first. I think I might have picked up the occasional comic before that and I know that I was a moderate manga reader at the time. But it wasn't until Watchmen that I started taking American comics seriously.

like every british child, i'm sure i had a beano shoved under my nose since i was old enough to say my first word. i had a subscription for years, and i recently found out that a couple of key players in the british comics industry were from the same place as me - which is really cool, in a way.

in terms of american comics... i was very interested for a long time before i actually bought my first one at around 11, as they can be really expensive for a young kid in england. i remember it was an uncanny x-men issue, with a story about archangel. i really got into comics around the launch of ultimate spider-man.

haha yup!
Other than the Beano (and the occasional Dandy), the first comic I've ever read was probably the first LOEG.
I had recently bought the film on DVD
And I thought it was cool
And this guy my dad knows said the book is better, and I didn't believe him
He lent me his copy of the GN, and I read it in a couple of hours :)

1 in 10 times the dandy would have a better gift... like polo gummies... so i'd choose that instead!

Watchmen, first and only. I have little interest in any others to be honest. I am a fan of the story and characters in Watchmen, not of the medium itself.

Ah yes! The free gifts that would dictate your choice! A Beano that had a sticker album in, and stickers, would be essential!
And don't get me started on cereals!

I believe the first graphic novel I read was "Bone: Out From Bonneville". I remember seeing it in a book store and picking it up, and not being able to put it down. I was instantly taken by the characters and illustrations (in the original black and white) and it's mix of humor and dark fantasy. It was the first non super hero comic I had seen. Although now it seems a little derivative of Walt Kelly's Pogo, it changed the way I looked at comic books.

Then I read Watchmen. :)

I don't know if you'd count it, but if you did, probably Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. After that, V for Vendetta, then Watchmen.

first comic arc that really drew me into the comic medium was fairly recently with the Sinestro Corps War that switched off between the Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps titles.

first GN for me was Kingdom Come, followed by Watchmen 8-)

Watchmen is my first, and only for right now. Reading Watchmen has made me re-think the medium.

You should definitely read V for Vendetta.

Hmm, If Manga counts then 'Hellsing' would be the first I have read (Great Manga and Anime (well Ultimate is) btw).

After that, I think after seeing Punisher I got interested in reading the comics. I had known about Punisher for a long time and thought he was an interesting character, and after seeing the movie I decided to look into the comics.

Luckily I managed to read the Garth Ennis run 'Welcome Back Frank' and his Marvel Knights Punisher arcs, which were outstanding and some of the best Punisher comics ever. From there I moved onto Preacher, which I had heard about before, but knew nothign about it. It was an easy transition, going from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon onto another Ennis/Dillon work. Preacher was fantastic as well, and from there, I was eager to look into all the other great comic runs.

I think that Transmetropolitan was next, which I also loved, followed by Punisher MAX (Also Ennis) and 100 Bullets. I loved 100 Bullets, but havent read any since around issue 80, so I'm looking to get the TPBs of that very soon.

I checked out V for Vendetta after I loved the movie, and heard the book was much better and different, so bought that and immediately agreed that it was even better than the movie. I can't remember where I first heard of watchmen, I remember looking into it ages ago and thinking they were just a typical Avengers/Justice League style team. It wasn't until I read it this year (I wanted to read the GN before seeing the movie this time, and knew that it would be good after reading Moore's V) and I realised just how special Watchmen is.

i just wanted to add that although a lot of my friends have borrowed watchmen from me, what they always ask for first is my sin city books, and mainly a dame to kill for, the big fat kill and that yellow bastard - the movie tie-ins.

which i can't argue with because it's a great movie, and they are great books.

Isn't 'A Dame to Kill For' going to be the bulk of Sin City 2, if it ever gets made?
Got to read more Sin City, I've only read a couple of them.
I think I'll read 100 Bullets before that, after I finish the Sandman...

Agreed. I am ever so grateful to Zack for making this movie or else I would've never heard of it. Even if he screws the thing up, I'll still be indebted to him....

I'll be mad, but indebted.

Watchmen. After I read it, I started buying comics and graphic novels on my book shelf. Before that I just read comics and graphic novels in the library and didn't buy them.
