It opened here a while back. Very popular, apparently.

If you have ever seen 12 Monkey's making-of doc on the DVD, you'll imagine that Terry Gilliam was in a lather that Ledger couldn't finish the new film.

I've seen 12 Monkey's... not the making of sadly. What was said? If you can remember?

Read what he has to say here.

Edit: *Just* realised this would have fit in nicely in this thread

I agree with the eye roll on V, but what would you say was Marvel's best movie?

X-Men 2. Though Spiderman 2 was close. I'm pretty sure those are the most respected...

Yeah, I agree. X-Men 2 was pretty spectacular.

Don't want to get too off topic though.

Being the main 'bridge' between DC Comics and Warners, Paul Levitz isn't going to bad mouth it obviously. Personally I would have preferred if he chose not to mention the V for Vendetta film at all, or Constantine for that matter...

No problem! I just realised that from talking to others about the GN and the trailer, 3 people have gone on to buy and read the GN and (not surprisingly) love it. Two of them chose to watch the trailer after they had finished the GN.

What a good idea. I should've done that. Seeing the trailer didn't ruin anything though. But it would've been nice to have had a clean slate.

Holy Psychic Squid Alien!!!

Quote:
As George Gene Gustines reported for the Times, DC has printed 900,000 copies of the trade since the trailer debuted with The Dark Knight. The paper cites Levitz as saying that, in total; DC will have printed more than a million copies of Watchmen in 2008. "As far as we can tell from our conversations with the book industry people, there has never been a trailer that did this," Levitz told the Times...

According to BookScan, which measures sales at brick-and-mortar bookstores, Watchmen sold about 100,000 copies in 2007.

 :o :D

I think that qualifies as a little bit more than a "boost" ;)

So, if I'm reading this right, it went from 100,000 copies in the whole of 2007 to 900,000 copies in one month of 2008.

From 100,000 copies in a year to 900,000 copies in a month.

100,000 in a year, 900,000 in a month.

:o :o :o

This does not compute. My brain seems to be incapable of comprehending such a leap. I can't begin to understand how that could happen, only that it is AWESOME!!!

Isn't it just! I had to re-read a few times for it to sink in. Those 900,000 are without counting the secondary market at online auction sites, etc. 900,000 for direct sales alone!

It's a kick in the nuts for those who said that comic adaptions don't translate into comic sales. Even if the film fails in epic fashion and ends up screwing the story and sucking big time, thus far 900,000 new readers are experiencing the original GN in all it's purity :D

Later in the original article the figure of 1 million is confirmed.
Yes, you are one in a million (but we knew that anyway) :D

Hehehe.
Yeah, 100,000 in 2008 before the release of the trailer and 900,000 ever since the trailer hit. So a total of 1 Million in 2008 thus far!

Compared to the 100,000 total in 2007.

Awesome beyond words!

When I picked up my first copy of the GN way back in the summer of 1988 those kind of sales figures were inconceivable within 8-9 months!

Exactly. Like in the theaters back then, only one or two movies would come out in a month and now it's one or more a week. The world is definitely run by the arts now... ahem... among other things.

And I'll add more truth to those numbers. I first read Watchmen through scans (which I know is a bad), and I'm going to buy the book in two weeks. I already saw a copy in one of the comic book shops here in my country.
