An interesting bit of news was posted today.

Apparently, Watchmen started filming four days ago. What's more, the scene was allegedly at a "Christmas Party" set in 1975. Characters mentioned are Andy Warhol, Truman Capote and... Hitler?!

Not that I doubt the story's validity, but does anyone have a guess at what's going on here?

It's probably a part of the montage of clips that's supposed to be in the opening credits of the movie. Vynson can probably verify that there is an opening montage in the latest Tse draft (not the one offered on this site).

And my guess on Hitler is probably a guy dressed up as him. Although, it could be Hitler's ghost risen from the dead some three decades later. I sure wouldn't want to miss the opportunity attend a party at The Factory. Andy sure threw some crazy parties.

Can anyone read the street name in this picture?

I live in downtown Vancouver and I can't quite figure out where that exact spot is.

Ah. I don't find myself there very often, but it's not that far from where I live.

There is a montage in the 11/06 Tse draft, but nothing that specifically mentions this scene. Hurm... we're seeing fresh writing here. I'm optimistic.

Vynson is optomistic. And it happened on my forum. I got two exclusives today.

It has, indeed, been a very good day. I raise my can of Diet Pepsi in your general direction, Doomsday. Cheers.

Whew. Who exactly is Vyson and why exactly does he have the authority to confirm and unconfirm certain events? (Not trying to at all sound rude. I'm asking for knowledge in the future, somewhat).

I'm not 100% sure, to be honest. Around the Web he's has a well earned reputation as a Watchmen expert. He tells us that he was given a very recent script, but not the shooting script. I don't know why. I'm guessing that he works in the film industry in some capacity and has connections, but I could be wrong. Maybe Vynson wants too enlighten us?

I have the same 11/06 script, and have it under the same conditions as Vynson does from the same contact. Unfortunately, one of the conditions is to not distribute it to anyone else as trust. See the thread on this site titled "Leaked screenplay drafts".

I don't need you to share, but can you shed some light on why the two of you were given these scripts? Do you work in the film industry? Are you major WB stockholders? What gives? I'm curuious.

No prob. On Vynson's site, the Vivarium, there was a regular member who had access to the script. Who exactly he got it from I am not 100% clear on. It was from someone at least tangentally involved with the film, obviously. Or so I was told, but leaked scripts are a touchy thing, and it is indeed an issue of trust. Vynson made a stink about what he found over at IMDB, and what a stink it was. "THERE IS NO ALIEN SQUID AND DAN KILLS VEIDT. WATCHMEN IN NAME ONLY. ENJOY!" Yucky.

The script was given with the request that if it were shared, it would need to be limited to only the few regulars who requested it at the time (this last spring), and not to go beyond that.

At least that's how it's played out. Really, there is nothing all that profound with the script. Vynson has summed up the necessary lumps that the 11/06 script offers, and what lumps they are indeed.

Ugh. He can share anything else he wants. I don't think I've overstepped the "boundary of disclosure".

No. There is no Warhol Christmas party scene in the comic book.

Im not quite sure why this scene is necessary. I can understand the need for truncation, but additions? Christ, not to sound like a rabid fanboy, but this sounds so goofy.

I agree that adding scenes to a story that cannot possibly fit into two hours seems a bit crazy.

But, I am wondering if this is really an added scene or an existing scene that has been changed to perform double duty. There are plenty of scenes that take places at parties. It seems logical that one be transplanted into a Factory Christmas party as they were rather dated iconography of the early to mid 70s. Warhol used to invite all sorts of people. The dubious infamy of a masked vigilante would fit right in.

And since 1975 is two full years prior to the Keene Act, that might work. Adrian Veidt retired in 1975. Maybe that figures in. I don't think it could stand in for Hollis Mason's retirement party as he retired in 1962, but it is possible that Mason and Jon's conversation at that party could be had here. Or the party where Laurie throws her drink in Blake's face. That's possible, but unlikely. I don't think Blake would be at a Warhol party, but, with a different national view on Vietnam and Nixon remaining in office, maybe. But that party should be around politicos like Liddy, not counterculture denizens like Warhol.

I hope Snyder isn't throwing this in at the time cost of a scene from the book. But I understand if he is taking a scene from the book and moving it to a Factory Christmas party for greater cinematic effect.

Maybe the shot is just part of a montage.

I suppose we'll find out.

I think this is the case. It would appear that all of the material they shot that week is for the opening montage (JFK meets Dr. Manhattan, Dollar Bill). Not sure why they would add this, but it will likely be 15 seconds of screen time if not less.

It can't be the scene where Laurie throws her drink in Blake's face as Malin Ackerman had not started filming yet when this was shot.

I'm just guessing, but this montage might happen during the opening credits, so its sort of before the story starts.
