Personally, I'm thrilled to see this happen. The shot of JFK with Doc Manhattan was a great image and I'm glad it'll be in the movie.

Nice 'scoop'. Good to see the costumes being so faithfully reproduced with the comic as an obvious point of reference.
But no love for Manhattan's mentor, Prof Glass? He was there, looking on in the background in what I always took to be the role of military/government appointed chaperone. Is he excised from just this scene or the entire draft?

And more green screen background work? Hurm. So that'll be just the scenes on Mars and Antarctica we were told about thus rendered... annnnd The White House, then.
Shaping up to be Who Watches The 300 anyone?

I don't think they can be expected to build a set for a shot that will last a few seconds at most. And there most likely isn't any practical location in Vancouver to double for the White House. Short of going to the actual White House I think it's as hard to duplicate as Mars or Antarctica would be.

If there were an actual full scene at the White House steps, then I'd start to be upset at the use of green screen. I agree that Watchmen really needs the look that they'll get shooting real sets versus green screen.

Holy cow. A positive word from you about this movie.

I saw this happen in the run-up to the Transformers movie: Haters and disbelievers who saw something they liked. It remains one of my favorite things to see on the 'Net.

Maybe they'll film some alien action as well as Rorschach with no articles next? Or maybe the whole end scene without Ozy being killed.

That way, all previous doubts are out of the way right-off-the-bat.

Let's focus on Doc Manhattan for a moment:

Crudup's costume is described as "a suit with white gloves and a piece that covered his hair that 'lit up with blue LEDs.'" Now, when they say "a suit," do they mean "white shirt, black tie" like in the comics, or do they mean "skintight gray suit" like you see in all the behind-the-scenes footage of mo-cap? In short, will the suit be practical or CGI? I think it'd be rather weird to see a CGI creation wearing a practical suit, but that's just me.

That effect on film might be just right; doesn't Hollis Mason describe the sensation of his brain screaming when meeting Manhattan for the first time? Weird is good in this case.

Any clue as to whether the JFK scene will appear as it does in the comic and so forming part of Manhattan's memory flashbacks whilst on Mars, or if it'll be spliced into this opening credits montage we keep hearing about? I only ask because it was stated that they'll be filming some JFK assassination scenes as well - these don't actually appear in the comic (mention made only) and a montage would, on the face of it, seem to be the appropriate place to insert these. Do any of the main 'hero' characters appear in this alleged montage themselves, or is it purely facsimile newsreel footage of lookalike extras?

Firstly, congratulations on the scoop, guys, this website is turning out to be the definitive Watchmen movie hangout. The pictures are indeed very promising, both sets, it would appear that Snyder is putting a lot of effort into the small details us fans love so much!

Honestly, I wouldn't have been that upset if this scene wasn't included, but the fact that it is shows Snyder's integrity and makes me more doubtful that he could botch the ending.

And the questions being asked are good ones also- is Crudup in a SUIT suit or a CG suit? Where will the scene be situated? Will Manhattan's musings be running in the background? Since Vynson's script doesn't have this scene WHO CAN ANSWER US!?!

My guess is that he'd be all CG, top to toe. At 5' 8½" I would have thought that Cudrup needs a bit of a digital boost to get him towering over everybody as he does in the pic below (allowing for perspective, too).

Wouldn't it be a wonderful thing if the leaked script was a ploy? A clever ruse to obfuscate, a sexy slap to the face from Snyder? Wishful fanboy thinking, yes, but this JFK scene does give one hope.

I too was curious about the assassination mention, but then I read the panel they filmed. I'm guessing that from the line, "Two years later, in Dallas, his head snaps forward and back. Two shots...," Snyder might just be using it as a quick snapshot/flash when Jon says that line. As in, he'll say the line, we'll probably hear 2 gunshots and have a quick bullet-speed flash of the assassination scene.

My source confirmed today that Cruddup was wearing a traditonal suit and tie for the shoot.
