that wasn't miller's original run... that was about '93 if memory serves...

It was also his worst Daredevil stuff. His original run (the stuff collected in "Visionaries" volumes 2 and 3) was great, but Born Again is, in my opinion, the best thing Miller's ever done.

No idea, what my first was, but my favourite graphic novels (in no particular order, though Watchmen's first):

Watchmen
V for Vendetta
Daredevil: Born Again
The Dark Knight Returns
Batman: The Long Halloween
Maus
Killing Joke
Batman: Year One
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen v.1

Also, I love pretty much all of the Daredevil from Frank Miller, Kevin Smith, Brian Michael Bendis and Ed Brubaker. Geoff Johns' JSA is/ was pretty awesome too. I haven't read much of it since the new series (Justice Society of America) started, just after Infinite Crisis...

Any suggestions for what to read next?

Sonic the Hedgehog #135 was my first comic book. Technically Yu-Gi-Oh Vol 1 was my first GN. Both are from the good old days of the 6th grade. My first non-manga GN was JTHM back in the 7th or 8th grade. :)

Like most of the other British people here The Dandy or Beano or something similar (Whizzer and Chips maybe)would have been the very first comic. First American comics were The Brave and The Bold No's 177 (featuring Batman and Elongated Man)& 178 (featuring Batman and The Creeper) and Batman No. 338 featuring the One-Shot villain The Sportsman. I'd seen repeats of the camp sixties T.v series and wanted more  (well I was only nine or ten....) . Got hooked from then on, and spent most of my pocket money for the next few years on comics (although only D.C comics oddly. I was never interested in Marvel for some reason).

The first G.N. was Dark Knight Returns. Got it for Xmas 1987 and it totally blew me away. The second G.N. was Watchmen. I got it the following summer for my Birthday and......

Well, I thought it was okay, but not as good as Dark Knight. Then I re-read it. And re-read it. And now It's just about my favourite book of any kind. And so here I am.....

My story is similar, except my first GN was Watchmen and the second The Dark Knight Returns. Like you, I liked DKR better at first. But now, having re-read it a few more times, Watchmen has far surpassed any comic I've ever read. :)

I received Watchmen at christmas and a week and two reads later; I absolutely love it.
I've never been a comic book fan really as I never read marvel/dc etc while growing up. However I do recall reading stuff like the Beano, Tintin, Asterix way back when.

That's because Jango Fett is awesome. Plus, it's hard not to relate to a self-described "simple man trying to make his way in the universe."

I think most of the Sin City graphic novels. Then 300, and then Watchmen. Since then, I've read over 150 Star Wars comics, and of course the weekly 7-page Heroes webcomics, if those count.

Under the Hood (the batman arc). I can't remember why I got it, I just did. It's okay. Black Mask stole the show.

That would be V For Vendetta.

Although I used to collect comic books in my youth, it was only recently that I got into them. I also want to explore the works of (older) Frank Miller and Neil Gaiman. They come highly recommended. 8-)

If you're into Batman at all, and want to further explore Moore or Miller, then Batman: Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, and The Killing Joke cannot come recommended any higher.

My first GN was From Hell, when I was 16. I had always wanted to read it and hadn't had much interest in the medium itself. When I did read it that quickly changed, and four years later, I'm still snapping up books, and spent oh...so much money.

My first manga was sailor Moon or something like that I think...*Has almost 70 or something Manga's so it's hard to remember*

My first American/European comic has to be a X-men comic I got when I was 5 centering around Wolverine. The first GN I ever read was the first in the Sandman series by Neil Gaiman. I've been awestruck ever since. :geek:

I'm a New Zealander, and down there it's a repository of many branches of western popular culture. I have three older brothers, and I was about seven years old, 1972, when they gave me a cardboard box full to the top with comics. All D.C. as far as the superhero stuff went. Lots of Batman and Superman mainly, a decent sprinkling of Green Lantern and the Flash. The rest were Archie, Donald Duck (and other Disney comics), the Phantom... At the same time they gave me a heap of British Annuals from the mid-sixties on. Eagle, Lion, Tiger... the glossy colour pages of Dan Dare remind me of Alex Ross.
There was a Monkees (the TV show) annual in there, which had some great comic sections in it.
I don't have any of 'em any more.

Dammit.

I was hooked from then on, never stopped buying/reading comics.

My first GN was, I think, Maus. I had been reading Raw comics around that time too, a good time for the medium through the 80's.

Grew up reading Japanese comics [or manga] as a child and was pretty bias about American comics for quite some time until I reached highschool. I took a comic-book writing class for the first time around the age of 15 and my professor was [now deceassed] Professor Rockwell [Norman Rockwell's nephew]. He was quite the accomplished artist and had several published comics in his time. His influence basically opened my eyes into the world of American graphic novels and comics. I believe one of my first comics may have been the Punisher. First 'Graphic Novel' would be Sin City. I'm not a fan of Miller's artwork but the story line was phenomenal [in personal opinion]. Have divulged in the world of American comic books ever since.

I'm really not sure what I read first, but I grew up reading all different kinds of comics. I sometimes bought them and didn't actually read them (thinking they'd be collectibles, ha!), though. I suppose one of the first was Marvel's X-Cutioner's Song crossover series, though I distinctly remember reading an earlier issue of X-Men where Wolverine was fucked up by Magneto and had his Adamantium claws removed.
