I read it this morning, and I was frankly underwhelmed, it was good, don't get me wrong, but I think it was too short to actually get it's point across.

anyone care to share their views?

I thought it got it's point across no problem. If it were any longer than the three issues people would have probably complained that it was padded out. I absolutely love WE3, blew me away when I first read it and I did have an "Oh Shit" moment when Weapon 4 was revealed :) Utterly brilliant.

When the movie gets into production I'm sure it will be long enough for you. In fact, Grant himself stated that the script is better than comic because he could put every scene into it that he had to leave out of the comic (due to space). Confirmation of the film gonig ahead, and a director being attached, is here.

Hopefully WB will do this justice :D

Hurm, I will check the movie out, no question, but I just didn't "love it" like I thought I would...

I loved WE3. I felt that it got the point across very well--probably better than it would have if there'd been a lot of padding. It's a very simple, raw story, so conciseness works in its favor, I think.

It really hit me quite hard in the heartbreak department, too, which I wasn't necessarily expecting. I had expected it to be maybe a little sad, but it's actually very poignant.

With regards to the movie, I wonder who they got to direct. There are about a thousand ways to do this movie wrong, so I hope whoever they got has some understanding of making combination horror-tragedy work. My ideal director for this one would be David Cronenberg, personally.

Whomever they get to direct, they'll be shooting from Grant's script. I also imagine WB will want Grant and Frank to have a lot of input into it, much like Dave Gibbons had on Watchmen and Frank Miller had on 300 and Sin City.

Grant will only comment that the director attached is a "“big, hot director” as well as a “real cool guy.”" so I can't begin to guess who that could be.

It's in WB's interests for the film to kick ass and be a success, and at this point I have faith that it will be.

Big, hot director...
real cool guy...

Zack Snyder?

I know he's supposed to do that Owl Movie, but maybe he changed his mind...

Or they'll wait until after that one...

See, I thought of Zack when Grant first spoke of the director in those terms. Then I second-guessed myself and figured Grant would have described him as a "real awesome guy" or even a "super awesome guy" if he were wanting to drop hints ;)

Saying that though, Morrison did mention that he was chatting to Zack Snyder at SDCC, and Zack does know how to translate comic work to the screen in visually stunning ways. Factor in that WE3 the movie will be live action with CGI animals (blue/green screen work) and we have the makings of a great rumour ;) :P :D

I agree with Dr. Brooklyn. I heard how good it was but then when I read it I also felt underwhelmed. I think it needed to be longer. I actually didn't have a lot of sympathy for the animals but I feel that could have been corrected with length.

This. I cried like a little girl whose parents doesn't let her watch Jonas Brothers.

I can't stand any type of animal cruelty, so the comic was... hard for me. But the art, my god, was fucking beautiful. Specially that splash page with the cat attacking the soldiers. Incredible beautiful. I'm really waiting for the movie.

I think my friend put it the best when she was describing it to me after I read it-

"It's like the author just kept going 'DO YOU FEEL SORRY FOR MY CHARACTERS YET? HOW ABOUT NOW? NOW? FEEL SORRY FOR THEM DAMMIT." I agree it kind of was a bit of overkill but I liked the happy ending.

In the same vein, I read Pride of Bagdad recently and felt it was really stupid, after all the hype I heard. If you're going to read a BAWW ANIMAL RIGHTS comic read We3 IMO.

My aunt keeps mastiffs. The ones I've had contact with were pretty floppy and dumb and thought they were fifty pound lap dogs who liked to lick your face with dish-towel like tongues. It didn't help I kept thinking about those dummies when I got to that part.

"On December 9th, 2008, it was reported that John Stevenson, director of Kung Fu Panda was attached to the project as a director, and that New Line Cinema was no longer involved.[5]"

Since it´s wikipedia, don´t take it too seriously.

I suppose you've never heard of a citation? That's what that "[5]" means.
