I wouldn't say its as good as DKR personally. But its still very enjoyable, the whole ending part is great.

The Killing joke is great, and by many it is the End all be all Joker story, it's good, but when it comes to the Best Batman story the only one that can hold a candle to DKR is YO, all others fall short.

^I thought the Long Halloween was much better than Year One. Although to be fair Year One was the very first Batman related thing I read, so maybe I didn't 'Get it'.

I wanted to read them in a certain order
- Year One
- Hush
- Killing Joke
- Long Halloween

So far Long Halloween is far and away my absolute favourite out of all of them. Next stop is Dark Knight Returns, so I'm very much looking forward to that.

They are by no means the best but I've read the first two Batman Vampire books and found both very enjoyable. Any one else read them?

Just finished "The Killing Joke" and it was short but sweet. I liked it a lot, especially the joke at the end and the whole ambigousity of the ending.

Next, I'm getting the Long Halloween. Or should I get Year One?

Take Dr. Brooklyn's advice and get Year One. It is a much better story than The Long Halloween, and it has Dave Mazzuchelli as the drawer (whose awesomeness has been sorely missed from the American comics scene).

I know it's kind of trendy to bash Frank Miller right now, so please forgive me for saying so, but this is one of the few things Miller's done that I can still enjoy, even twenty years later.

I just read The Eye of the Observer.

Good comic. Not the best, but good nonetheless.

I've been reading Batman stuff a lot lately.

First, I borrowed The Dark Knight Returns from a friend. Hated the art, story was alright. Really, the artwork was just not my style. In many panels, I truly couldn't tell what was happening at all. As for story, it had it's moments. The stuff with Joker was definitely intense and worked well. Overall, the story didn't blow me away, but it was a solid read.

Then I got some of my own stuff for Christmas...

Started off with The Killing Joke. Very, very good. Amazing artwork and very vivid coloring by Higgins. I like its' psychedelic, color-overload look. I also looked at the new Deluxe edition which has an interesting coloring by Bolland. I was turned off by the idea of more subdued, almost black-and-white coloring, but I like how it looks. Might buy the new one too. As for the story, I loved it.

Just finished Batman: Year One. I really enjoyed this one. Comparing this one to TDKR, I'd have to say that this one stands a bit higher for me. I really liked the art and story here. The dialogue was a bit less hokey than TDKR and was overall a lot more solid. Enjoyed the artwork as well.

Next up is The Long Halloween.

Long Halloween is quite good, but be warned The Joker looks like shit in both TLH and Dark Victory.

Hahaha. Then you'll hate DK2. The whole thing seems to take place in a bunch of differently coloured voids in space.

I've decided to get Year One and then Long Halloween.

I flipped through Long Halloween, and I just thought the artwork looked like shit though. What did you guys think of the artwork?

I like the artwork. I think it's unique. Why do you not like it?

I only looked at a few pages but...I dunno. I guess I just wasn't impressed.

I guess I need another look at it.

I guess like my artwork to be really clean and detailed (like Watchmen or The Killing Joke).

Just finished up The Long Halloween a few minutes ago. I was completely engrossed when reading it. It was very hard to put down. I really enjoyed the whole Holiday arc as well as how it brought pretty much all of the Gotham freaks out, even if I wasn't familiar with a few of them (Solomon Grundy, Julian Day, Mad Hatter). I really, really enjoyed this read.

Overall, I'd say that I liked it a bit more than Year One and a whole hell of a lot more than Dark Knight Returns.

I agree with you that I enjoyed Long Halloweed better than Year One. Not sure about DKR though.

I read DKR over my Christmas break from work, and really loved it. I thought it was very well written and while the art was a bit bizarre at times, I did really like it, and it managed to give off that dystopian/nightmarish look. I really loved the contrast that it showed between Batman and Superman as well.
