It just looked like a well-photographed action film. Good editing, as you say, but says little about the content.

Really? Frankly I thought that was retarded... he's got the timings down exactly (and it works well in the first 18 seconds and at the very end) but for the most part it looks like it was made by an ADD kid on crack. The worst part was the mutilated shot of Rorschach in the window. If I had entered the Cortex's competition, I would be very upset to be losing to a piece of well-edited, poorly-thought-out crap like that.

Ok this is the trailer i entered into the Cortex contest

i made to the final 6 and i am currently losing to

I currently have zero votes and its becoming clear that i have no chance of winning.

I just would like to know if any of these pass off as an actual trailer
could you see yourself walking into a movie theater and seeing any of these up there before a movie.

I tried to make my trailer as much like an actual real trailer as possible and the videos that i am competing with are more like fan videos than Fan Trailers.

let me make it clear that all of these videos are wonderfully edited well made videos.

But in my opinion they are not Trailers am i wrong?

Im not trying to be a brat or a sore loser im just trying to understand the logic

I totally agree with you, MovieMaster. Those are all music videos, yours is a trailer. The one that's winning is fantastically edited, I'll give 'em that, but it really doesn't say anything about the movie or its tone.

i agree imo alot of people online tend to make it into mvs and don't understand the concept of putting together a trailer

They isolated my audio for copyright infringement! I see copyrighted music all over Youtube being used for something else, why would they do it to mine?

Moviemaster, I agree your trailer is much better than many of those music videos passing off as trailers. I mean, P Diddy? What the fuck?

However, I noticed not many people voted in the poll to begin with. The winning trailer had 3 votes. It stands to reason that such a small community is not an accurate sample size of Watchmen fans, and if the trailers were polled on a bigger Watchmen forum, your's might have a better chance of winning. But wherever would we find a huge Watchmen forum with hundreds of members...hurm...

EDIT: I took my trailer from a week ago (the one with "Serenata") and added dialogue:

New version with new audio for first half. The reason they took my video down is because of the copyright behind "The Sound of Silence." Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS5CUQhI8q8

My new TV spot with some enhancements, like better dialogue, cleaned up frames, and a red filter over the Comedian death flashbacks like they are in the book.

that video that was winning Cortex's contest fails. Music was good, good timing, but the clips used were poorly chosen.

OK, I have a problem. I made a great trailer in Windows Movie Maker, but it just wont let me save it (an an avi or wmv or whatever). Has anyone else had this this problem? Is there a way to fix it?

Thought I'd use a track from another Moore adaptation.

A google search for 'Watchmen font' will bring you the answer you seek on this very forum.

P.S. I've just finished what is by far my best trailer, which I modelled on this one
It's uploading now...!

Taxi Driver. Nice!. I think you should have stuck with the Taxi Drive score for the whole trailer, though.

I've made a couple of changes including the one you suggested:

I'd love to know what you think

Yeah, I think that works much better than the previous one. I like the font you used too.

After a decent day's work in Windows Movie Maker, I bring you TheShadow's fan trailer. Made from various clips of different quality and scrunched into a wierd screen due to my incredibly limited knowledge of YouTube, this is not actually 5 minutes long. It just says that. >_>

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdojoacgLLI

I'd love to hear some feedback.

Alright, so there's my newest "super" trailer. I added much-cleaned up dialogue and 100% more sound effects. It's probably my best one so far.
