OK - I'm pretty forgiving w/ movies. I sat through Battlefield Earth... but Wicker Man blew. Hard.

You didn't like the Wicker Man? Really? What didn't you like about it?

EDIT: Wait there's a remake isn't there, with Nicholas Cage. I'm talking about the original with Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward!

Didn't see the original - the remake is the one I was referring to. I should check it out especially because in reference to the remake, it can only be better :)

I haven't seen the remake, and it doesn't sound like I'm missing much. I'd definitely check out the original, though having seen the new version, it might not be as memorable as when I first saw it without knowing much about it.

1. Suicide Club: The message I learned: Japanese people...want to commit suicide in the most horrific of ways? Strange movie especially considering the high amount of teenage/student suicides Japan has every year.

2. Ichi the Killer: Another weird one...

3. Mullholland Drive : I watched this with a girl who wanted to be with me. I don't know what she was thinking, using this movie.

4. A Scanner Darkly: The ending just depressed me and the rotoscope feature made me feel uneasy.

I really didn't like Jarhead much. It kind of felt like it was trying to be Full Metal Jacket and failing horribly.

Ha. I know what she was thinking and her intentions, but I don't know why she chose such a dark movie. I was confused if she thought I should be turned on or if she was sending me some weird type of message...I felt quite uneasy and ended up leaving haha.

Without a shadow of a doubt the Russian war film 'Come and See'. Its about the Nazi pogroms in Russia and is a genuinely frightening. Its more of a psychological horror film about war than a normal straight up war film. If you want validation that this is the darkest film probably ever then take into account that Roger Ebert called it the most frightening film ever made (he doesn't review it on his site though, which is annoying).

Anyone else seen it?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091251/usercomments - read the review titled 'Apocalypse Then' that guy gets it right.

Yup, saw it years ago, within the same month-odd period that I saw Apocalypse Now.
Harrowing.

Darkest movie I've ever seen? I don't know, I've seen too many. What do you mean by "dark?" Gothic? Surreal? Apocalyptic? Gory? Scary? Satanic?

Hurm...Dark is a bit of a broad term here, there's a lot of ways to interpret it...

Off the top of my head, 2 of the Darkest (And also 2 of my favorites) are Taxi Driver and Apocalypse Now. I'm probably forgetting something even darker but these are the 2 that come to mind for me.

Well, what do you mean by 'dark'?
Perhaps interpret 'dark' in your own way, relating the feeling (as you would describe it) using a film as an example.

:)

The best way to describe a "dark" film is one that disturbs me or makes me think too much about the evil side of humanity. I really can't think of the last film that made me feel that way.

Can I add Twilight to this list? It distubed me in the fact that soooo many girls LOVE it when the male lead isn't even remotely attractive. They called me a lunatic, damn Twilight-whores...*grumbles and skulks off in search of sugar cubes*

The movie is a satire. That's what I love about it! :D
