I watched this movie for the 3rd time yesterday. It's one of the best films I've ever seen. I like the 80s Miami setting, I like Al Pacino as the lead character, I like the musical score, I like the writing and I like the filming techniques De Palma used when he made this awesome movie.

I also beat the game the other day.

Discuss Scarface here.

Crime drama rant follows.

I find that Scarface suffers, albeit to a lesser extent, from the same ailment as many popular dramas - all substance, no theme. It's just, y'know... a story. That's it. It just goes 'this happened.' It's like the number one question of writing anything - there has to be an answer to 'so what?'

Not a fan of Mob/Gangster movies whatsoever.

The length, pace, and my overall disdain for the genre makes me just hate this movie.

Didn't like that one either, to be honest. :P

I'm all for some thematic crime dramas... Usual Suspects, Taxi Driver, or Seven any day of the week over the 'classics.' :P

All three of those films have their own nice cosy spots in my DVD collection, don't you worry about that!

Reason i said Goodfellas before those 3 was because i thought we were talking about mob movies here. I guess usual suspects could be thinly labelled as such.

My favorite mob movie is a teenage version of mob/noir movies - Brick. Great film, all about getting into the organized drug underworld... in a 20-year-old's basement.

My brother has a copy of that lying around somewhere.
Say's it's a good film.
I'll give it a spin if he'll lend me it.
