I've always thought he took the mask off because he felt it was over for him and by him I mean Rorschach. He felt helpless that he couldn't do anything to stop it. He gave in and wanted no part of Veidt's "utopia" and felt he'd be better off dead.

Now i know that it changed after the kidnapping case, which is evident by the voice-bubble getting wiggly. But if you notice, this only takes place when his mask is on. Any body else notice this?

Yup. It's used to show how his voice is "muffled" by the mask. You'll notice he also has the smooth speechbubble at the Crimebusters meeting, because at that point he was still "Kovacs pretending to be Rorschach."

Sorry, new to the forum. I always felt it was more to represent his mind set when he has the mask on. In Ch. one he has his mouth exposed, but still makes the effect.

That could be right, too.

And it's okay. Some people can get a little touchy around here.

He did it.

I was always under the impression that was him using his "Rorschach voice." The muffled mask affecting the bubble idea doesn't make sense as he is seen with his mask on with a normal bubble (before the Roche incident) and when he has the mask pulled up he still has the wavy bubble (eating Dan's beans).

i thought this too, but in the scene when he and Dan are under the river he is in costume, yet has normal bubbles until he puts his mask back on. That was the basis for my question.

Perhaps because Rorschach only uses his Rorschach voice when he has his 'face' on? He doesn't like using his normal "Kovacs voice" when he is Rorschach.

Although I think Walter and Rorschach are the same person, I think it gets to be pretty complex and vague once you look at "before and after" the Roche case. . . I always thought that the "normal" bubble at the Crimebusters meeting was to show that Walter was still in control of his Rorschach alter ego, so Walter (smooth bubble) could still speak underneath the Rorschach getup. While, afterwards, Walter could only really have any chance of speaking once the Rorschach mask was off (even then, Walter and Rorschach had pretty much been melded together).

Then again, this part of the book has always puzzled me a little . . . even though it's probably pretty simple. Walter/ Rorschach once had "all the buttons on his coat" before, and now he doesn't.

Who says that what Rorschach thinks is right really is right? You might even say...

Seriously, I hope RLRohrschach's a troll. The character's a walking psychiatric encyclopedia. Multiple personality disorder, sociopathy, delusions of grandeur...and as much an antihero as Veidt is, though on a smaller scale.

If Rohrschach were a real person he'd be living out his life in an asylum (or whatever politically-correct term is now being used for them), where he could do no real harm to society.
