Hm, the first comic I read... I suppose (as I read the entire arc) it would be DC Comics' 'Zero Hour' - y'know, the one with Hal Jordan/Parallax. Oh, that, and the Death of Superman arc.

The first GN I ever read was the 'Director's cut' of JTHM (Johnny the Homicidal Maniac) by Jhonen Vasquez. I was 15 at the time and my mother burned it saying it was 'crap.' I thought it was funny... :?

My first manga was Sailor Moon. I my first comic book was an Archie magazine. My first (non-manga) graphic novel was Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (the "Director's Cut").

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that! I read it when I was 16. A friend let me borrow it and I'd always hide it under my bed so my parents wouldn't find it!

Put it this way: If I remember correctly, the titular character's first line is "WHERE THE FUCK IS THE BACTINE?!"

You could buy it online. I use to see Hot Topic sell the comics also.

My first comic series read is Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, followed by the Umbrella Academy, which is the first comic I followed month-to-month, with bits of Mignola's Hellboy and others around thetime I was reading the UA first mini-series. My Dad was going through his old stuff and came across his old issues of Give Me Liberty (Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons), handed 'em to me, and hat's one hell of a story. I, while being a total HALO nerd, bought the graphic novel and follow the series and am currently waiting on the fourth and final issue. I wouldn't mind getting into Rex Mundi, but I'm a broke teenager with no cash for back issues. I will say that Watchmen is my first substantial sized graphic novel and purchased it and finished withing three days.

So yeah, I guess that sums it up.

As a child I used to read the Beano and I recall my dad bringing my brother and I a large Dan Dare GN home one time. (The man from Mars... i think it was called... I may still have it in a box somewhere). Really great artwork in that.

But what really started me into comics was 2000AD.... spent years reading those!

Beano and 2000AD probably the start for all British comic readers.

My first superhero comic, or the one I claim as such since its the one I remember the earliest, is Legion of Super-Heroes #303. I got a lot of the Uncle Scrooge type books before that, but that's my first men in tights book. Many of my early books were via those old three packs for a buck, that many supermarkets had back in the day.

The first comic I ever bought with my own money was Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition #11. I became an info junkie, and was forever doomed. *looks over at his Essential OHOTMU collections next to him*

Watchmen was my first GN and is still my favourite GN.

It really introduced me to the world of comics and graphic novels.

My first comic was X-men 275 during the Rise of the Mutants Arc. Collected for a few years then quit. (read watchmen for the first time during this time) Picked up collecting about two years ago when the Messiah Complex started and have been collecting since. Die hard Deadpool fan here.

My first graphic novel was Alien (the tie in to the film).

I was 6 and I read it aloud to my 5-year-old brother. We giggled at the words "bitch" and "bastard" and our favourite page was the one where the baby alien bursts out of Kane's chest (a double page spread of mostly red as I recall).

That's what happens when you have a 16-year-old brother who has a room full of cool stuff and no lock on his door.

My first was Watchmen, then V For Vendetta. Those are the only ones I have at the moment. But I'd like to get Batman: Year One and The Dark Knight Returns.

My first comic of my own I can remember was Web of Spider-Man #95 which I pestered my parents into buying for me while on vacation when I was 9. They were still against comics. Before I only had a few Gold Key Looney Tunes comics that were handed down from my older brothers that my parents approved of.

What got me collecting was seeing a copy of Inhumans #1 from 1975 not long after. I had never heard of the Inhumans before, but just looking at the characters on the cover I was enthralled. I was just about to buy it when my parents stopped me not wanting me to spend more than a few dollars on an old comic. Instead I bought Fantastic Four #375 having recently enjoyed another FF comic. I was surprised when I read it to see a guest appearance by the Inhumans and then I set out to buy any comic with them in it (there weren't many though blindly going through back issues with only a cover to judge by and a price limit set by my parents), which got me collecting.

I'd recommend Daredevil: Born Again if you decide you like the Frank Miller stuff. I genuinely think it's much better than The Dark Knight Returns.

And I started with my brother passing on his Batman comics & stuff. I think the 1st thing I read may have been Knightfall, the absolutely insanely awesomely epic arc involving Batman getting his back broken. I liked it quite a lot, really. Then it was probably A Death in the Family, the arc where Jason Todd/ Robin died. Back when deaths in comics almost, sort-of meant something...
